Tel Raiq

The capital of the Baran region and a powerful coastal city in the Northern Triune.

Government

Tel Raiq, and by extension much of the Baran region, is ruled by the Reynian Council, an assembly of twelve elected by landowners within the region. However, the merchant class is extremely influential in the region due to the power they hold during elections. As a result, Tel Raiq is home to many luxuries for those that can afford them, but can be unkind to others.

Assets

Tel Raiq houses a powerful navy, one of the largest in Hadrim. They also hold the favor of many wealthy merchants in the Northern Triune. The support of the merchants has earned the city its nickname, "The Neverfall."

Guilds and Factions

Besides the Merchants' Guild and the Reynian Council that run the city, Tel Raiq is also home to several thieving groups such as the Shifters, Leers, Two-Tongued, and Borsons. These thieving groups constantly compete with each other, especially over the smuggling market.

History

The city was founded in the Age of Embers when a looping current was discovered just off the coast. This current made travel to the Heartlands and back safe, simple, and affordable. The men that would form the first Reynian Council were simply the first to build.   Tel Raiq already had a sizeable population due to its position, but it skyrocketed once trade opened up between Tel Raiq and the Golden Dominion through coastal cities like Lindolfin or Barasted. This pulled in many wide-eyed merchants and eager sailors. Even some men and women of the Haunt joined as bodyguards and mercenaries for the traders.   When the Northern Triune was to be formed and a city would be named to represent the region of Baran, none doubted it would be Tel Raiq for it stands, to this day, as a force in the nation and Hadrim itself.
