Quaggoth

Humanoid creatures known as quaggoth (also known as a deep bears) lives in the Undervale.   Quaggoths are large, humanoid creatures with beast-like features. Their entire body is covered in long, shaggy, white hair, and some of them paint their fur to blend in with their surroundings in the Undervale . They don't wear any clothes, with the exception of the pack leaders.   Quaggoths do not fear anything. They are savage and warlike creatures who terrorize Undervale denizens as they hunt for prey.   Any animals or creatures detected near a quaggoth habitat (such as a group of adventurers) will almost certainly be attacked. They set up ambushes whenever the opportunity presents itself. Quaggoths defend themselves with their claws or a crude weapon when fighting for a specific clan. These creatures have the ability to break out of their normal state of consciousness and completely disregard their own safety and the safety of those around them.   Despite being formidable hunters, quaggoths can be prey for other Undervale predators such as drow and Illithid. Roughly half of all quaggoths live in slavery. If kidnapped as children, quaggoths can be trained as servants and guardians. The drow enslave and use them as guards and spider handlers in some cases, while the Illithid use them as disposable troops in others. Because slavery saps their will to live, they are known to act without regard for their own safety when engaged in warfare.   Quaggoths in the wild are nomadic hunters. They travel to different parts of the world on a regular basis. They establish a base of operations in a central cave in each new territory and leave the riches to a small group of guardians. During the day, the tribe's other members hunt and come to the camp to relax and change guards. The names Ymapi and Srukri refer to quaggoth leaders and chieftains, respectively.   Among free quaggoths, there are two distinct cultural practices. Up to 70% of quaggoths identify as "beast-followers," embracing their wilder side. For them, any form of civilization is merely a façade, and they rely on their race's natural rage and ferocity in the face of adversity rather than modern technology. In order to survive, the other 30% ("magic-followers") those who value building on what nature has given them will cook their own food and use fundamental warfare methods such as tactical retreat planning. Those who do not believe in magic or who do not paint or dye their white fur will be outnumbered. They prefer stone clubs or axes, but former quaggoth slaves now wield better weapons such as steel battleaxes or two-handed swords. A quarter of the clans follow both beast and magical traditions, while the rest adhere to only one of these two philosophies.   The only language quaggoths can communicate in is a halting form of Undercommon, and it can only convey basic concepts. When communicating, the most common sounds they make are snarling and barking. Quaggoths with a higher level of intelligence can speak Duergar, Elvish, and Common languages.   Legend has it that quaggoths seek out locations where they can commune with great primal spirits. Others have admired Khydar's various characteristics, according to sources.   Although the exact origins of the quaggoths are unknown, they are said to have been created as slaves by drow mages before fleeing and settling in the Undervale  , where they have thrived ever since. They are a semi-civilized species that ruled Undervale through conquest and ritual sacrifice until the drow, Deep Dwarves, and other races overthrew them, severing their dominance over the region. The quaggoths' hatred of dwarves and elves, who live on the planet's surface, lends credence to the theory that they once had a civilization on the planet's surface. When the deep dwarves captured and destroyed Ocegary, laying deep beneath the Empyrean Spires they broke the final stronghold of the quaggoth, reducing them to small tribes wandering the Undervale .   At some point in the 10th century, a colony of half-breeds and quaggoths became established in an area of the Undervale near Imirus' surface. The Dark Bow Tribe has become well-known for its proclivity to shoot at outsiders with snipers stationed at their realm's borders.
