The High Guard

The High Guard is Valheims town guards and soldiers. They use a combination of weapons, magic, and tactics to defend Valheim with their life.

Composition

Manpower

The Valheim government has thousands of troops scattered across Valheim is small groups of ten. When they are positioned in a town or city as a guard they split out of their groups and reassemble in the case of an emergency. Multiple groups can be positioned in the same town/city.

Equipment

Each troop is equipped with a spellbook, some rope, a lantern, and oil. The rest of the equipment is based on their role. Defenders are equipped with longswords that have a crystal in the hilt to act as an arcane focus and a large shield and plate armor to protect themselves. The Lobbers are equipped with a spear that has a gem attached to the end to act as an arcane focus and wear breastplates. The cavalry has a long lance with a crystal stuck to the handle which is used as an arcane focus. They normally wear chain mail armor and shields and ride on Chokellockel.

Weaponry

The High guard also not only have the weapons that have an arcane focus in them but normal weapons/armor too stockpiled just in case of an emergency where they would need more weapons/armor. The high guard also has access to almost all of the Valheim Government's magical artifacts in case of an emergency. When they have an emergency, they don't bother breeding their own Chokellockel but instead buy them from professional breeders across Valheim.

Vehicles

Cavelry units ride Chokellockel, a common steed found in Valheim.

Structure

One group of 10 normally has one leader who looks no different from the rest and is normally a lobber. This is done so that enemy forces cannot target leaders to ensure chaos. Groups of 10 never include cavalry.

Tactics

The High guard has very efficient defense tactics but not as good attack tactics.
  • The defenders are upfront, casting these spells: Ray of Frost , fog cloud (1st), Shield (1dt), Shatter (2nf), Counterspell (3rd), Dispell magic (3rd), Wall of Fire (4th), Otiluke's Resilient Sphere (4th), Bigby's hand (5th), Wall of force (5th), Wall of stone (5th) They also use these spells from Xanathars guide: Earth tremor (1st), Warding wind (2nd), Wall of sand (3rd), Wall of water (3rd), Wall of Light (5th)
  • The Lobbers are right behind the defenders casting these spells: Firebolt , Chromatic orb (1st), Expeditious retreat (1st), Feather fall (1st), Magic Missle (1st), Alter self (2nd), Magic weapon (2nd), Levitate (2nd), Melf's Acid Arrow (2nd), Scorching ray (2nd), Gaseous form (3rd), Fireball (3rd), Haste (3rd), Ice storm (4th), Dominate person (5th), Telekinesis (5th), Chain lightning (6th) They also use these spells from Xanathars guide: Mind Spike (2nd), Storm sphere (4th)
  • The cavalry sweep in after the enemy is weakened casting these spells: Shocking grasp , Burning hands (1st), Color Spray (1st), Shield (1st), Mirror image (2nd), Fireball (3rd), Fear (3rd), Lightning bolt (3rd), Counterspell (3rd), Fire Shield (4th), Bigby's Hand (5th), Sunbeam (6th) They also use these spells from Xanathars guide: Dragons breath (2nd), Melf's minute meteors (3rd), Sickening radiance (4th), Synaptic Static (5th)
  • Their defense tactics are the defenders up front, casting wall spells, and protecting those behind them from harm, with the lobbers behind them lobbing spells over the walls (hence the name). The cavalry are different. They normally aren't used in defensive positions but they are sent out if the defensive position weakened the enemy enough for an assault. When they take up the offensive (which is almost never the case) the cavalry is upfront taking out as many enemies as they can before retreating back for healing. While they are being healed then defenders and lobbers will take their defensive position and slowly move forwards cleaning up what the cavalry left behind and then retreating back when they are healed. You might be wondering about the healing because all of the troops are wizards and wizards cant heal. Well when the High Guard needs healing they hire clerics or doctors to aid them in battle because they lack the resources to train clerics themselves.
