Ember Moth

Ember Moth's are the most important creatures to Mount Firethorn's ecosystem, for they are the ones who produce fresh water for the creatures that live there. They absorb the nutrients from frozen ponds, rivers, and lakes with their proboscis by slowly melting it and then slurping it up, causing some of it to melt and some clean water to emerge.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ember Moths are pure white, but the underside of their belly and a couple of spots on their back glow red hot, for that is where they produce their heat to melt ice from. The rest of their body resembles a normal moth, but their heating spots glow brightly during the night.

Genetics and Reproduction

Ember Moths reproduce sexually, and when the female is ready to lay eggs she lays about 50 of them. These eggs normally take about a week to hatch which produces more Ember moths. With no natural predators, Ember Moths are normally swarming the frozen ponds and creeks on Mount Firethorn.

Growth Rate & Stages

When hatched from the egg, an Ember Moth is but a small larvae. The larvae still have the heated spots, and rely on the help of their siblings to assist in melting large portions of ice to absorb the nutrients from within. It takes somewhere between 5-21 days for an Ember Moth larvae to turn into a fully grown Ember Moth.

Ecology and Habitats

Ember Moth can pretty much only survive on Mount Firethorn due to the nutrient rich ice, which isn't found anywhere else on Valheim.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ember Moths absorb the nutrients from the ice with their proboscis by slowly melting it and then slurping it up, causing some of it to melt and some clean water to emerge.

Additional Information

Domestication

Some people brave enough to live in Mount Firethorn's harsh environment, farm the Ember Moths by preserving their eggs, where then they can sell clean water to adventures for quite a profit.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Ember Moths are the only way to get clean water on Mount Firethorn so they are an extremely important creature to Valheim's ecosystem.
