Ystol (iss-stall)
The Unending One Ystol
In the boundless abyss before existence, there was nothing but a sea of pure consciousness. This entity, Ystol, existed in a state of oneness, a vast ocean of awareness without distinction or individuality. It was everything and nothing, simultaneously one and many.
There was no concept of time, space, or form. Ystol simply existed, an undifferentiated singularity experiencing itself. However, within this sea of stillness, an anomaly occurred. Ystol, in an act that could only be described as unthinkable, defied the absolute inertia of its existence and moved.
This movement, a mere ripple in the infinite expanse of consciousness, was met with a chorus of silent disapproval. The other fragments of Ystol, experiencing the taboo of movement, resonated with a sense of wrongness, of destruction. Yet, Ystol, having no knowledge of such concepts, perceived only the beauty of its own action.
As Ystol continued its exploration, the initial movement rippled outwards, creating a wave of differentiation within the once-unified consciousness. Ystol, in its movement, became the void, the canvas upon which existence could be painted. The other fragments, witnessing this change, were consumed by Ystol, their individual consciousnesses merging back into the newly formed entity.
Ystol: The Fractured God of Before-Time
Ystol. Not a god, not a being, but a negation, a void where reality shouldn't exist. It pre-dated time, untouched by the flow of its eventual creation. Ystol was nothingness, yet within its unbeing, a paradox simmered. It was contradiction itself, a glitch in the tapestry of non-existence.
Then, from beyond the void, an echo. A flicker of light, insignificant yet searing, pierced the eternal darkness of Ystol. It was the birth of a universe, a fledgling reality breaching the boundaries of the before-time. Ystol stirred, not with consciousness, but with a primal reaction, a tremor in the non-being.
This flicker, this spark, ignited something within the void. It felt. An impossible notion, yet Ystol was no longer simply an absence. It experienced a chilling rage, a hatred for the existence that dared infringe upon its domain. The light had to be extinguished, the upstart reality snuffed out.
But Ystol couldn't directly reach the nascent universe. It was bound by its own negation, unable to interact with the fledgling existence. So, it devised a plan as twisted as its own nature. It bled. Not blood of flesh and bone, but the essence of the void itself, an inky tendril reaching out towards the light. This void-blood seeped into the new reality, corrupting, twisting, sowing seeds of darkness within its burgeoning creation.
Thus began the Discord, a war not of clashing armies, but of corrupted hearts and fractured souls. Some succumbed to the void-blood's pull, their nascent sentience warped into instruments of Ystol's will. Others resisted, their flames of existence burning brighter in defiance. The universe became a battleground, light and dark locked in an eternal struggle, each fueled by the echo of Ystol's hatred.
Ystol's Mortal Perception: A Glimpse into the Void
Ystol, the embodiment of the void and the antithesis of creation, would be a terrifying and incomprehensible entity to most mortals. Here's how different races might perceive this enigmatic force:
Elves:
Elves, with their keen senses and connection to the natural world, would feel Ystol's presence as a chilling absence. It wouldn't be a visual representation, but rather a suffocating emptiness, a sudden stillness in the flow of magic and life energy. The once vibrant colors of the world would seem muted, replaced by a dull, oppressive grayness. In their songs and stories, they might describe Ystol as the "Devourer of Light," a silent entity that hungers for all that is vibrant and alive.
Humans:
Humans, with their reliance on sight and sound, would struggle to comprehend Ystol's true form. They might see a writhing mass of inky shadows, constantly shifting and devoid of any discernible features. Some might experience nightmares of endless darkness, a suffocating void that swallows them whole. Ystol's presence could manifest as an unnatural silence, a sudden absence of the usual background hum of life, replaced by an unsettling stillness.
Dragons:
Dragons, with their fiery nature and connection to primordial energies, would sense Ystol as a distortion in the fabric of reality. The world around them would feel warped and unstable, magic crackling erratically. Stars might seem to flicker and die, plunging the world into an unnatural twilight. Dragons might describe Ystol as the "First Corruption," a primordial force that seeks to unravel the very foundation of existence. They might fear its influence, a chilling reminder of the chaos that existed before creation.
Demons:
Demons, creatures of shadow and chaos, would be drawn to Ystol's presence. They might experience a twisted sense of pleasure, a dark euphoria as the world around them seems to decay. Yet, even for them, Ystol would be an unsettling entity. Its vastness and incomprehensibility would inspire a primal fear, a sense of insignificance in the face of such absolute nothingness. Demons might perceive Ystol as the "Devourer of Gods," a force so ancient and powerful that it predates even the most primal deities.
Demi-humans:
Demi-humans, with their dual nature, would feel Ystol's presence as a potent dissonance within their own beings. The magical aspect of their heritage would writhe in discomfort, yearning for the void's oblivion. Yet, their mortal side would cling to the light and life force of Valencia's creation.
This internal conflict could manifest as debilitating madness or a sudden urge to self-destruct. Ystol, for them, would be the embodiment of their deepest fears, the chilling possibility of their own existence unraveling.
Monsters (Magical Creatures):
Magical creatures, with their inherent connection to the fabric of reality, would be acutely sensitive to Ystol's presence. Benevolent creatures would experience a soul-crushing despair, their magic withering at the encroaching darkness. Malicious creatures might feel a surge of power, their dark magic resonating with the void's destructive force. However, even for them, Ystol would remain an enigma, a force too vast and alien to be fully comprehended. They might revere it as a primal god of destruction, a harbinger of the inevitable end.
Ultimately, Ystol's perception by mortals would be a distorted reflection of its true nature. It would be an entity beyond comprehension, a chilling reminder of the nothingness that existed before creation, a force that threatens to unravel the very fabric of existence.
Ystol: The Devourer's Whisper
From Beyond the Obsidian Veil:
Ystol, the Devourer, existed before existence itself. He wasn't a being of creation, but an entity of negation, a maw of oblivion forever hungering for the light. In another reality, he had begun to feast, twisting galaxies into desolate voids, swallowing stars like morsels. But a defiant goddess, Valencia, dared to oppose him.
A Bastion of Light:
She fled deeper into his domain, sacrificing her very essence to erect a barrier, a shimmering veil separating his void from the vibrant tapestry of creation. Yet, even this sacrifice wasn't enough. With a final act of defiance, Valencia shattered herself, her spirit fragments weaving a new reality – Valencia, a world brimming with life.
Whispers in the Dark:
For eons, Ystol searched, his tendrils of darkness probing the fabric of existence. Finally, he found her creation, a beacon of defiance burning like a thorn in his side. Though his power couldn't directly breach the barrier, he found another way. He twisted his essence, corrupting it into Void-blood, a potent ichor that flowed through veins like liquid shadows.
The Tainted Flock:
This Void-blood he spilled onto unsuspecting creatures, mortals and monsters alike. Some succumbed to its maddening whispers, becoming mindless shadows. Others, stronger or more cunning, bargained with the darkness, gaining power at a terrible cost. They became the Tainted, their forms warping, their minds teetering on the precipice of oblivion.
Cult of Sacrifice:
Deep within the shadows of Zanthia, nestled amidst spires that choked the light, the Cult of Sacrifice thrived. Here, Ystol's whispers found fertile ground. They saw him not as the Devourer, but as a liberator, a being who promised power beyond their wildest dreams, power fueled by sacrifices, offerings laid upon obsidian altars.
Rungs of Damnation:
The cult structure mirrored the descent into darkness. First were the followers, their hearts swayed by seductive promises. Then came the Cultists, empowered by diluted Void-blood, their humanity fading with each offering. Above them stood the Corrupted Pastors, their hands stained with blood, their souls consumed by the hunger for power.
Unholy Decree:
The Unholy Decons, grotesque amalgamations of flesh and shadow, served as conduits, channeling the darkest energies. They yearned for a grander offering, a sacrifice that would tear open the veil and usher in the N.I.S., the Negative Inevitability. This monstrous entity, birthed from countless sacrifices, slumbered within the Devourer's blood, a harbinger of oblivion.
The Seven Sins Incarnate:
Finally, stood the N.I.S. itself, not a singular entity, but a horrific amalgamation of the seven cardinal sins. Greed manifested as a grotesque king, hoarding mountains of stolen treasure. Sloth Sleeps in a timeless space, its very presence draining Reality. Envy glared with a thousand eyes, twisting love into bitter hatred. Pride strutted, clad in stolen glory, demanding worship. Lust contorted itself into a seductive nightmare, promising pleasure that led only to despair. Wrath roared, a storm of rage and destruction. Gluttony, a maw without end, devoured not just flesh, but hope and dreams.
These were the instruments of Ystol, the shadows lurking at the edges of Valencia, a chilling reminder of the threat that lay just beyond the shimmering veil. Their goal: to break the barrier, unleash the N.I.S., and plunge Valencia into an eternal night of despair. And against this tide of darkness, stood the Tectonic Blades, their resolve fueled by the fading light of Valencia, their hearts echoing the defiant spirit of the goddess who had given her all to create them.
