Citadel's End

Citadel's End is a desolate rogue planet located deep within the Eridanus Void 500,000 light years away from the nearest habitat. The planet is geologically dead, and its entire surface is frozen in solid oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ice. scans from a few light years away indicate that the world may once have been an ecumenopolis however nobody has ever seen it since the multiple expeditions sent to the planet cut off contact permanently once they were within a 2 light year radius of the world. Nobody knows what happened to these expeditions and all military ships sent to explore have suffered the exact same fate. Residents of The Fringe Station, the closest habitat to the planet, named it "Citadel's End", in reference to its ruins, and set up warning probes nearby to transmit signals telling explorers to turn around and never look back.   This anomalous planet gained fame during the year 5992666AD after it was mentioned during one of Queen Athaetus' psionically induced visions. This is usually refereed to as Queen Athaetus' prophecy.   "There lies an great expanse of cold, dead space driving us towards ourselves. Deep within the Void lies the vestiges of a gutted carcass, home to remnants of nothing. Watching in omniscient ignorance, the vacuum births a stillborn child. Citadel's End beckons us forth to meet its icy grave as nightmares bleed into the minds of life. And there it lingers in silence, slowly creeping. Watching. Waiting. Icy dust delivers itself to the event horizon and all fall silent into the void."   The Junction of Gods constantly pester the Technocracy, telling them to hand Citadel's End over to them. The Matrioshka AI obviously know something about this place, and they're refusing to tell anybody.

Geography

Citadel's End was clearly once a vibrant, rich world. Under the layers of ice, it's made of an ancient alien metal referred to as brownsteel, in reference to the extreme decay that all known samples of the material have experienced. Massive corroded arcologies rise the rock like-ice as if they were fish emerging from the sea. The planet still has two out of three of its orbital rings; one of them has crashed into the planet itself. The crashed ring along with the second one are both very thin and are thought to be industrial rings. The third ring is very strange though; it's extremely thick and contains seemingly random outcroppings that would otherwise be a waste of resources. The ring also shows evidence of containing kugelblitz black holes but nobody knows why they would be there. There are many orbital habitats around the planet as well, including trillions of what appears to be weapon platforms, and derelict starships. This makes many people believe that Citadel's End was some kind of fortress world. What the fortress was supposed to protect against is a mystery.
