African Wars

The African wars were a series of military conflicts that happened during the second half of the 20th century and continued into the 21st century. Main Wars include the First West African War, the Somalian Civil War, and the Second West Arican War.

Egyptian war of Independence - 1945

Sometimes considered as a continaution of World War 2 instead of part of the African wars, the Egyptian war of independence was a war that took place between the self-proclaimed Sultanate of Egypt and the British Empire between 1946 and 1951. It is unknown why or when the war truly started, as tensions between locals and the British had been ongoing for many years, and guerrillas had popped up some times already, but it is thought that it was one of many patriotic speeches of Winston Churchill which offended locals and made the war break out.   By that point, the speech was taken as a speech of hate instead of a patriotic one, essentially starting a revolution that would lead the separate militias into an integrated separatist movement. This war would eventually lead to the independence of Egypt in 1951 with the rise of Nasser Ashrid, which would militarise the country and invade the Sinai peninsula in 1966.

The Suez War - 1966

The Suez Canal, officially declared as an international zone after WW2, would be taken under control by Nasser's forces in 1966, later annexing the entire Sinai peninsula. After several countries intervened and invasions were planned and executed, the British forces retook the peninsula by 1967, later forming a coalition against Egyptian forces and reaching Alexandria in February 1968. Nasser was captured and put in jail after a war crime court had found him guilty of several acts against rules of war and he was put in jail in1969.

First West African War - 1974

The first African War was founded directly by the Egyptian government, but not as many other movements, the West African insurrencies did appear. Several countries were affected by these insurrencies, eventually collapsing into a series of devastating civil wars which required assistance from outside armies to intervene. The conflict was brough to an end slowly, as cities were slowly captured by the advancing coalition forces.   The war would leave more than 7 million deaths, as well as more than 30 million people without a home or family, but its slow and unresolved abrupt finish would settle the bases for a second war to happen.

Second West African War - 2004

Racial, Cultural, Political and Economical tensions would lead to a second West African War to happen, some governments being founded by others which had been founded by the Egyptians during the 1950's, but nevertheless equally unstable. A coallition had again to be created, with new sides appearing and being defeated, and coutnries joining and leaving and rejoining the coalition, but the war has still to be finished.   Every war mentioned in this list is though to have originated, from one way or another, by that one speech of Winston Churchil.
