The average human isn't even ankle high to the average nonhuman, which marks the most distinguishing feature of the species. The difficulty on how to safely work with such a species lead to the most complicated integration period in the UTO's history. It required the development of new theories and concepts such as guardian and charge relationships and the field of psychology that arose around it. Future infrastructure had to account for humans either completely, or just enough to sustain the guardian charge pairings. Deciding how to balance their economy proved to be a tricky process. Then, of course, there was the cultural engineering to ensure future generations would not look at their small, fellow citizens with anything but the respect each other race has. On top of it all, they were the only pre-space flight species to join the UTO, due to the Rynar invasion of Earth forcing them into the glactic spotlight. The lack of experience or technology in space, and the societal development that comes with it, made it a very new experience for the UTO. Over the course of decades, however, humans demonstrated their tenacity to fit into the UTO and carved out their place. Their small size allowed them to excel in certain fields - piloting, heavy equipment operation, precision manufacturing, delicate medical treatments, and more. Any kind of work that benefited from having a staff that occupied very little space made humans particular cost efficient to hire to supplement normal staff, such as most office work. Although humans in nonhuman space depend upon their nonhuman peers, or regular use of mechanical bodies, the small species demonstrated they were more than worth the major effort to ensure such a diminutive race could live in society with relative ease.
