Morangl Settlement in Uto Daeg | World Anvil

Morangl

Dwarves keep to underground. They enjoy hollowing out mountains to accommodate their desires. Curiously, dwarves also only choose the highest peaks in which to dwell. A dwarf when asked will shrug and mention something to the tune of "we just like high ceilings." Outside of Brin Balo, Mount Morangl and its eponymous city are the most like this.   The dwarves built the city in the middle of the Third Era, having conquered the denizens within. The foolish duergar had dug a small livable area under the mountain, but it proved too close to the surface for their liking. Easily Kalazûd Aebyrn and his clan came to eradicate them.   Together with Dírthorba, his wife and stalwart companion, they nearly cleared the entire mountain of the evil creatures. They drove them forth with whips made from the fallen duergar's belts. Back into the deep darkness, down the Fissure of Pain into the underdark they went. For weeks they covered the fissure and left it guarded always. This border guard still is there to this day.   They carved out the cave, swinging picks higher and higher, felling most of the trees outside the mouth of the cave to make scaffolding for their now dizzying heights. Every day more and more came to help. Gold was found in rich veins, some mithtril, too, though the Mithril Patrol came reign over the deposits.   They carved pillars from the rock, and artisans fashioned the pillars after Kalazûd and Dírthorba. The stretch from the lowest level all to the top. Their stern, harsh faces carved squarely and powerfully into their respective pillars. He proudly holds the Merchant's Terrace, which the clever artisans fashioned as a double-headed axe. Dírthorba holds a hammer high, ready to strike down on a tall anvil. The High Forge floor incorporates the anvil top.   The pillars rise through several floors, but they are open to the air. The artisans and carvers built a octagonal hole around the statue pillars so as to provide 10 feet of space. Stone guardrails prevent falling, though still allow perceptible view of the pillars from head to feet.,
