Darrenyit Cavern

Deep Dark
Just south of the once growing hamlet of Darrenyit before the King's Force came and razed it to the ground, a dark opening in a small hill descends into monstrous bounds. Of all of Evoria , this cave was magically saved from the magical protection from monsters raised by the king. Some believe it's because the cave has unseemly origins and it is a curse that keeps it so. The tales range from baseless to plausible.
The Tambuxic people from Tambuxia believe the cave to have been infested or overgrown with magic. This magic suffused the area in a dangerous and almost electric energy, slowly draining your life force. They believe inside sleeps some great creature or dragon that is feeding on them like a parasite while it sleeps.
Yymers from the fortified city of Yym believe it to house a portal to hell itself. They tell tale of demons flying in and out, and some paladins of Pelor have marched against it. The paladins would come back wild-eyed or not at all, leaving all or some of themselves in those twisting, treacherous caves. Recently, however, Yymers politely ignored it, knowing nothing can be done.
Very recently, people in the area believe Manaron's razing of Darrenyit to be directly linked to keeping whatever was in, in or whatever is in killed or destroyed. Most believe Darrenyit held secrets to it that the king wanted and so he killed any witnesses there were. Some believe this to be the most plausible.
Still druids in the deep wood have the most fantastic yet believable story.
Long ago, when Evorians were yet to develop into their own ethnic group, a cult to a long forgotten deity lived in the area. With the bountiful trees to the north and the fertile fields surrounding them, the townsfolk decided to make a temple to their dark god. These recluses were completely shut off to society and were beheld to no laws or customs save their own. And in this they fell further and further down their depraved and twisted vileness.
During exploration, the leader found a cave south of Darrenyit and followed a voice inside. it guided him and his workers deep underneath into chamber after chamber until reaching some weird portal. Following the call of that voice into the portal, they were greeted by some recent lich who sought after aid. They obliged and laid the lich to his rest to grow and convalesce. They set out to guard the area, but it was cursed because of the lich. They guarded it until monsters came into their new home and slaughtered them. The townsfolk disbanded, leaving the lich to rot without essence constantly flowing into it. But the evil influence of the lich caused the monsters to sustain themselves and provide shelter from the monster-repellent spells.
