All-Father Annam and the Manywives Myth in Uto Daeg | World Anvil

All-Father Annam and the Manywives

In the beginning...

A singular dark sky hung with a low, unchanging chorus of the new world beneath it. Then the All-father rose up and took for himself pieces of land and sea and sky and underneath in his control. The storms he blew, the stones he formed, the clouds he shaped, the fire he lit, the hills he rested, the cold he froze. Inside each of these he put parts of himself.

First Belovèd

Then there was Othea, his most belovèd. She instilled in his heart desire and spurned him to more. Soon, more wives came to him, each from the places he went. He took them in as his Manywifes, but held Othea highest.   Alas, Othea was barren, but the Manywifes accepted his siring of children. They each birthed a child who influenced their bloodkin forever more.

Manywives and their Archetype Offspring

First the giants of the storms were born. Shortly after taking in the unbridled and confident Hannath from the storms, she became pregnant. She had fits of rolling laughter that echoed like thunder and the babe also came out laughing with bright, sharp eyes. This child she named Stronmaus.   Second were the children of the cloud. Manywife Jahicra. seeing Hannath's success, was unsure of the pregnancy. She had pains throughout, broken up with days of peace. It is no wonder then that she gave birth to Memnor.   Boldstré birthed Surtr just moments before her conjoined sister Hlaathä birthed Thyrm. Surtr's first birth and superb gifts propelled him above his twin brother who gave head trophies. The two have been at odds since.   Manywife Filianthrop, gentle and kind, secluded herself during her pregnancy and gave birth with a sole midwife. She held in her arms the solemn-faced baby and called him Skoraeus. He remained solemn throughout his growing and his siblings sought his wisdom in matters.   From the hills Kourtakor came, wild and boisterous. She birthed Grolantor and his never-empty stomach. Upon his birth, his disgusting visage caused alarm among his family. All rejected him and only began to pay him attention after he grew to monumental strength.

Favor Failed

After the giants failed to defend their home from the dragons and with Jour's rising and falling, Annam forsook his children. He went with his Manywives away, leaving behind his children, who had vouched for their kin's ability. He proclaimed he would answer their prayers only after retaking what was lost and after purging themselves of the weakness of Jour or embrace it fully.   And so Annam left with his Manywives, abandoning his children until they were capable. Interestingly, the giants never had their spark taken, their deities being alongside them and never returning to their realms for they were not allowed.
