The Democratic Era

Due to Tempora's extensive political influence, the 'eras' of the world are generally marked by the state of the Temporan government.   The Democratic Era began in CY 1619, upon the death of the Crawling King's puppet Arden Riverfall. The magic that had been set into place by Astrid Ermendrud upon her death was finally able to take effect after over 1500 years, and the last member of the Ermendrud bloodline - Orion Ermendrud - was deemed the next Empress of the Temporan Dynasty. The preceding Era of the world was that of The Dynastic Age - a time of totalitarian strife.   In seven days, Orion made sweeping changes to the structure of Temporan government, which were journaled by historical scholars:   On the first day, she liquidated the investment assets under Dynastic Control. A huge amount of gold was redistributed among the populace, and the Temporan common folk would immediately see an increase in their quality of life.   On the second day, she redistributed a huge amount of gold to the township governments of Tempora, with the caveat that these were used for things like healthcare and education. Scholars finally left the urban areas of Tempora to educate the more rural populaces, resulting in a much more intelligent society.   On the third day, she decreed that all Watchers must stand trial for their crimes against the Temporan populace.   On the fourth day, she reinstated the long-forgotten alliance with the Thur Nirkhum Commonwealth. She formally apologized for the Temporan Genocide, and decreed that reparation payments were to be made against the Kin who were affected in this incident.   On the fifth day, she reconciled with the Fhirdiad Alliance of Sovereign Isles. With Sylvain Broadlaw, she began working to instate their system of government. This would soon become the Provincial Democratic Conclave of Tempora.   On the sixth day, she, with the help of the U5, revoked the teleportation laws that affected the entirety of Uthilith. She also signed off on the first, magically binding document regarding human rights that exclusively dealt with Temporan law.   On the seventh day, she abdicated the throne, naming Karyon Beeching an interim representative of Misty Run. In her abdication, she decreed that Tempora would never have an Emperor again.
Since that fateful week in 1619, Temporan citizens have seen a massive increase in their quality of life. This has subsequently affected the rest of the world, as the quality of Temporan exports have dramatically jumped. There have been rumors of those who wish to return to Dynasty, but most of those whispers have been quickly quashed by Temporan adventurers.
