Lakes of Being
"Those who visit the Lakes of Being searching for revelation often come away disappointed, but those who stumble upon any of the four lagoons unwittingly will be faced with the spirit within."
-An Elven Guide to Temporan Tourism, circa CY 1344
Geography
The Lakes of Being serve as the boundary between southern and northern Faron, and were thus carved to the earth when Astrid Ermendrud and Titania brought their ward upon the Lost Woods of the North. Most who grow up in Tempora have heard the warnings to "turn back where the water meets the wood, lest you find yourself in a place misunderstood", but there are occasionally those foolish enough to not heed these instructions.
Localized Phenomena
Each of the Lakes is home to a water spirit of great power, servants to the celestial known as The Lord of the Mountain. They are some of the most emotionally sensitive creatures in the world, and can thus understand when an individual has sought them out for ill intent. Each Lake is named after its respective spirit.
Viviane is the ruler of the westernmost loch, and she appears as an elderly woman with a kind face.
Nimuë is the ruler of the second loch from the west, and she appears as a young girl - not older than twelve in human years.
Rusalka is the ruler of the second loch from the east, and is the most dangerous of the four spirits - she appears as a middle-aged woman with a hardened gaze.
Eurydice rules the easternmost loch, and she is depicted as a maiden who has recently passed the threshold of adulthood.
