Ikana Badlands

"Few places in Uthilith compare to the stunning beauty of the Ikana Badlands... something about the way the bands of rock catch the light of early morning dazzles the eye in a way incomparable to anywhere else in the world. Though the dangers of the locale rival its beauty, it should be visited by anyone with a courageous adventurer's spirit."   -An Elven Guide to Temporan Tourism, circa CY 1344

Geography

The Ikana Badlands are characterized by steep slopes, minimal vegetation, and beautiful consolidated rock that is illustrated by perfect bands of color. Its topography is massively varied, ranging from plateaus to deep ravines, but it serves as a perfect natural reserve for any visitor who wishes to traverse its trails.   The Badlands are centered around the Great Plateau and the Whisperloch, where the town of Folweld sleeps. All natural drainage from throughout the Badlands (extending as far north as the Plyrior River) ends up in the reservoir of the Whisperloch, the only major water source in the Ikana region.

Ecosystem

Most of the Badlands are covered in a mixed-grass prairie, where several different grasses flourish and grow. As a general rule, the closer you get to the Whisperloch, the taller the grasses get (simply due to the sheer amount of nutrients found in that soil).

Fauna & Flora

Aside from the plethora of mundane animals (bison, prairie dogs, coyotes, etc.), the main fauna draw of the Badlands is the population of Moorbounders that call it home. They are the apex predators of the area, and should be treated with extreme caution should you venture into the Badlands.   Various nearby tribes of Goblinoids (primarily Hobgoblins) and Orcs have been able to tame select numbers of these creatures with various degrees of success, using them as mounts and guides throughout the terrain.
