Funerary Rites of the Blue Dragon

"Words of deepest Draconic - a language as ancient as the hallowed earth itself - rings throughout the hall.
Fly, Dragon, fly;
by the light of the storm,
for you are the master of Lightning.
Master of Thunderous Wrath
in the truest form,
we ask that your spark
be swift and sharp.
For we are your lightning rods,
your beacons,
your eyes of the storm.
*The thunder rolls have stopped,
the lightning strikes have ceased;
may your spirit forever fly among the storming cosmos
and finally be at peace."

History

The funerary rites of the Thýellus bloodline have eluded the public eye for centuries, but have remained steadfast within the family. These traditions of remembrance have been locked away for fear of contamination by outside sources.

Execution

The family member officiating the funeral rites states a prayer to the Ancestor - a now-deceased Ancient Blue Dragon named Thýellus - which fosters a sense of safety, reverence, and veneration in the individual saying the words (found above).   When there is a physical death in the bloodline, each with draconic blood has a rune carved in the wall of the lair in which Thýellus slept to reflect what their life represented. The prayer (above, through the asterisk*) is recited and repeated for as long as it takes for the rune to be satisfactorily carved into the wall. Once the carving is done, the hand or claw of the carver is placed in the center of the rune and the additional stanza is said (above, following the asterisk*).   Elemental energy can be imbued into the rune at the discretion of the carver, though most individuals choose not to as lightning is an extremely temperamental element (even more so when the officiant is wracked with emotion).
