Jaeger's Haunt

The Jaeger's Haunt is the largest and most organized Hunter's Guild in Ustolia. It operates primarily in Tal'Drasil, and is almost entirely made up of veterans, refugees of war, or young men convinced to leave military service in exchange for a life with the Jaegar's Haunt. It is a well-respected organization whose primary goals are to provide safe and productive means for veterans to use their skills to nourish and support communities, as well as reform and rehabilitate those afflicted by post-war trauma.

History

The Jaegar’s Haunt was founded ~480 years ago by a general named Agana-Rot in Lyssium. When a horde of Talon Beasts came to eat the city's stores of magical knowledge, he rallied veterans and mercenaries to Lyssium’s defense. The militia successfully repelled the attack and earned the respect of the city's Mage Guild. They granted Agana-Rot several commendations, as well as the means to establish a mercenary guild as a reward. Agana-Rot chose to found a Hunter's Guild instead, aiming to leave behind a life of war.

For many years, The Jaeger's Haunt operated as a simple hunter’s guild that grew across Tal’drasil, posessing more than 10,000 members at it's peak. Over time, civil wars, natural disasters, and the progress of technology dwindled the guild’s numbers, and Orestus Ejjos Demasious Gilfreyus III's conquest of Tal'drasil nearly obliterated the guild’s numbers as many abandoned the guild to fight for their lands.

Guild Details

The Jaegar's Haunt is a decentralized organization, with each region essentially self-governing. Major cities often have Guild chapters with a few dozen hunters run by small councils, while it's common for villages to have only a handful or even a single solitary member. Hunting parties of between 3-15 hunters will commonly group together and travel across the continent, searching for Avlakke to earn coin and notoriety, or game hunting to produce meals for themselves and local villages/settlements in exchange for lodging or new recruits. When surplus goods are collected on these hunts, guild members will typically host a Charasse to share the spoils in a large community feast.

The Jaegar's Haunt's commitment to the tenets of hunting with honor and living with dignity is strictly upheld by members, largely out of respect for the organization and their peers.

Hunt with Honor

Simple weapons

complex magic or deceptive weaponry is disallowed. Hunters shall have no unfair advantage over wild animals by balancing the skills and equipment of the hunter with the abilities of the animal to escape.

No Waste

Every hunt is eaten, either by the hunters, or shared with locals surrounding the hunt. If neither is an option, great care is taken to preserve the food. If all else fails, then a special rite must be performed by the hunter to atone for the nutrients lost. One notable exception is the hunting of foul monsters not fit for consumption.

Respect the Seasons

Advanced knowledge of the ecosystems is required in the Jaegar's haunt so hunters can restrict their hunting to animals that are in flourishing periods.

Honor the Hunted

Attain and maintain the skills necessary to make the kill as certain and quick as possible; Behave in a way that will bring no dishonor to either the hunter, the hunted, or the environment.

Live with Dignity

Seek out your brethren

hunters actively seek out veterans in need, recruiting them to the cause or providing support if they are unfit to join. (A Hunter may save rations for an old vet who is home-bound)

Share the Spoils

After a large hunt that produces food in excess of what the hunters themselves can eat - Hunters will prepare a "Charasse". This is a public event where Jaegar's Haunt hunters will cook a large meal for members of the public while regailing them with stories of their hunts. (This is an important recruiting tactic for the organization, and one reason why it is so large)

Maintain your craft

It is the responsibility of hunters to remain physically fit, and take great care to maintain their weapons and tools. Consistent training of the mind and body is also a major factor.

Build Community

Hunters are generally positive members of society.
