Goblinoids, Mawblins

Mawblins (also mawglins) are a goblinoid that dwells almost exclusively in caves and underground. Competing and warring against dwarves is common. Mawblins are typically 4 to 6 feet high, but bulky to fat with rounded waists. From the nose up, they look like a big goblin except for the two side horns that extend to each side. The endpoint turns slightly downward and points more forward. Some mawblin heroes had larger horns that turned fully forward and could be used for attacks. But the horns appear ornamental and identical on both sexes. Uniquely, mawblins have no visible neck separating their head from the body. Sagging flaps of skin layer below the jawline and upwards towards the back of the head closer to the level of the nose. Much like a shark, they have a wide maw and can open it to easily swallow small creatures or the upper part of a medium one. They have oversized lower tusks and more pronounced triangular upper teeth like that of a shark while having many pointed lower teeth typical of goblins. Their skin color is gray-yellow to gray-green. Some theorize that were they to live above ground their coloration would be like their goblin cousins. With age, their skin becomes leathery with numerous warts without any color variation. This can make them look sickly, slightly deformed. These warts are seen as a measure of age and experience. Fat and flabby bodies are a sign of status amongst mawblins. And they grow in height with more access to food. The Goblin King Bonesucker was said to be 8 feet tall and weigh 800 pounds. He was rolled about on a wagon throne by a dozen goblins.   They have perhaps the greatest appetite of all their cousins and enjoy the intoxication of feasting. Unlike bugbears, their palettes are advanced and civilized. They seek far beyond subsistence. They enjoy cooked and well-spiced foods, baked goods, warm breads, sweet fruits, roasted nuts, and ripe vegetables. Sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy, and meaty--every flavor must be enjoyed. Food is more important than sex, partially because of the intoxicating effects. Bonesucker was said to have a contraption of slings, pulleys, and counterweight for sex. A dozen small goblins would work the ropes moving him and his mate during their mating rituals so both of the big mawblins could continue eating sweets and fine drinks during them.   For this reason, mawblin dens will establish trade with surface towns and nearby far trade routes. Intermediaries are tolerated if they can acquire spices, fresh fruits, sweets, and fine flours and drinks. Bonesucker held peace with the Dwarven Tru Hold for decades simply for the steady source of Dwarven ales and lagers. Nothing elevates a goblin amongst a mawblin den like the skills of a chef. Mawblins like to be entertained by music, song, limericks, and performances of combat, punishment, and humiliation. The lewd and cruel streak of goblinoids thrives in their entertainment.   Like hobgoblins, mawblins can be found ruling over much larger numbers of goblins. They see their smaller cousins as endless fodder. They establish safe and protected dens for the goblins to breed to have endless numbers. Their lairs can be spread out with paths and bridges connecting multiple underground caverns together. The breeding dens will be amongst the deepest within their maze of paths. Goblins breed quickly with food and safety. Mawblins are amongst the most intelligent of the goblinoids and create the most civilized communities, despite their cruelty and disregard for even their own goblins. To a mawblin who understands their role in the world, there will always more goblins.   They avoid the presence of hobgoblins within their midst. Hobgoblins are competitors, and just not any fun to have around. If they have any they would be a source of entertainment. Bonesucker had a hobgoblin jester with no legs who rolled around on a cart. She had the hands cut from a hobgoblin for asking Maglubiyet's help in overthrowing Bonesucker. He was made a servant in the Smorgus Hall of Gourmand, the most popular of goblinoid gods amongst mawblins. Gourmand is the belly god, the feaster, devouring of all joys. He is layers of flab and fat rising to a fat mawblin head. Its shark-toothed mouth is enormous and completely flexible as if made solely of muscle and no bone. Gourmand is popular amongst wealthy and well-lived goblinoids who enjoy a gluttonous living.   Bugbears are welcome as mercenaries or lieutenants to mawblin captains. Goblin chefs collect spoiled and rotting foodstuffs in secure barrels for bugbears in their den. Well-fed bugbears are trouble-free bugbears.
