Francis Flint was the supernatural ruler of the Seven Seas as the condemned captain of the Bloodhound. A fearsome and ruthless captain, striking terror into the bravest of sailors, Flint became the stuff of various myths and legends of Pirate Lore, particularly relating to the Bloodhound.

Francis Flint was once a mortal pirate, but that part of his life is shrouded in mystery. It is known that he was a great sailor, who fell in love with the goddess Shiera, who was changing, harsh and untamable as the sea. There were different versions of the story, which said that Flint either fell in love with a woman or the sea. Shiera rewarded that love by giving Francis Flint the sacred task of collecting all the poor souls who were lost at sea and ferrying them to the other side. To carry out this task, Shiera gave him the Bloodhound. Because of that love, Flint agreed to set foot on dry land only once every ten years.
