The Myth of World's Scar
Variations & Mutation
The most common know variation is from the mers' perspective. To them, it seemed as if the world above was cruel and unusual, throwing people into the ocean and seeing if they can survive or not. Their own myth has been translated, loosely, to "And there was seen to be, at least once a month, a cruel killing from above the waters.
Cultural Reception
The legend was perceived very different by the nearby underwater civilization. Records show that one of the mers, Aoriaas, couldn't take listening to the current's whims any longer and went against tradition, establishing a guard that would rescue any struggling people from the water. They were taken to an air pocket further underwater, and from there had the chance to stay or be delivered on a shore far away from the people that tried to kills them. This, in turn, helped them developed a stronger relationship with the humans they kept and allowed for navel help during the Dragon Wars.
