Chromatic Rose
Wondrous Item
Rare no attunement
This magic rose comes in one of five colors, as noted in the Chromatic Roses table. While a rose is held, it gains a harmless visual effect as indicated on the table. While holding the rose by its stem, you gain resistance to damage of the type associated with the rose’s color. If you would take more than 10 damage of this type from a single source (after applying the resistance), the rose disintegrates, and you take no damage instead. As an action, you can blow the petals from the rose to produce a 20-foot cone of acid, lightning, poisonous gas, fire, or cold, as dictated by the rose’s damage type. Each creature in the cone must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 3d10 damage of the appropriate type on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Using this property destroys the rose.Color | Visual Effect | Damage Type |
Black | Drips acid | Acid |
Blue | Crackles with lightning | Lightning |
Green | Issues green gas | Poison |
Red | Wreathed in fire | Fire |
White | Covered in frost | Cold |
Cost: 4,000

Personal history
Born Leader
She has always displayed confidence in the way she talks and presents herself. She was the president of the theater club in both high school and college. She was the captain of the high school soft ball team. She is not all that physically attractive; she simply projects a presence that encourages followers. Thankfully, beyond the simple aura of her charisma, she is also clever enough to know what to say at the right times to have the greatest effect. She knows that how you speak means more than the words themselves. Even if she is not the leader of the group, she often does most of the talking when the need arrives. In her spare time, she socializes with others.Face
She is all talk. Thankfully, her strengths depend on that. Some call her empathic, while others claim she just possesses good instincts. She can spot a liar by their puckering lips and lazy eyes. She senses the heat of attraction and the searing loathing of those obsessed with violence. Her words have been known to disarm, sooth, or enrage. When shooting is not the solution, she's the only one that can save the situation. She's the smooth talker, thenegotiator, and the haggler. Her first response is, “can’t we discuss this?” regardless of what the situation is. She's at her best when bullets are not flying. Though she is not as skilled in ways of warfare, this doesn’t mean she sits back when combat starts. Certain abilities allow her to literally “psych out” enemies by imitating commands over the radio, causing diversions, and imposing her presence to cause hesitation. She has even been known to negotiate the release of prisoners and convince an enemy to run instead of fight. However, these abilities are limited in their effectiveness.Life Events
Windfall: Personal Treasure
She was given a White Chromatic Rose when she was a teenager. The gift was from a boy that she was dating during her high school years. His name was Michael Fletcher and he was an elf who was born in the Mundane world. She didn’t know of his true nature, but understood that the gift was something truly special and she has kept it with her always. It appears like a silver rose brooch.Windfall: Combat Training
The death of her high school sweet heart left her feeling afraid and weak. During her freshman year in college, she attended a self-defense class so that she felt better prepared to handle herself should anything happen.Tragedy: Illness
She contracted an infectious disease and for a while, the prognosis looked grim. Thankfully, she pulled through with only minor aftereffects. This was when she was 28 and it is a mystery to the doctors. She had been told that she would likely die and shortly after had been in the ICU. Donald Fulton Dean visited her while she was in the ICU and shortly after made a miraculous recovery. She does not know that he used his cleric magic to heal her.Gender Identity

Mental Trauma
Tragedy: Psychological Trauma
Michael Fletcher was killed in a drive by shooting while she was walking home from school with him. She is haunted by his death and struggles to understand why he was the target of such violence. She doesn't know that he was killed because he was an elf and was manifesting powerful magic. His death is part of the reason that she treasures the rose so much. Because of her trauma, she finds that she needs to take risks, to gamble, in order to still feel alive. This frequently lands her in financial and relationship difficulties.Intellectual Characteristics
Eidetic Memory
She remembers nearly everything. If she has been exposed to the information, she will most likely recall it.Empathy
She has always been able to understand someone’s emotional state, allowing for sympathy or manipulation. And she has never been afraid to use either to get the job done. There are times that you simply need to use other people's emotions like tools.Intellectual
It’s not a matter of how smart she is but more her choice to never stifle her curiosity about the world. She always asked questions. If her parents didn’t satisfy, she pestered teachers, and when they failed, she took matters in her own hands and embraced books or online sources. Regardless of her capacity to solve problems or retain complex theories, she refused to accept an explanation without evidence. This acts in opposition to her upbringing and the environment in which she was raised, where ignorance and blind faith was the norm. Her hunger for knowledge challenged the faith that she was asked to embrace during her childhood and this has caused tension between her and her Christian family. This pursuit of knowledge led her to a life that embraces change.Morality & Philosophy
Neutral characters do not feel compelled to follow every rule and societal belief, nor do they feel the need to ignore or rebel against societal order. A Neutral character follows the rules that align with their own goals, that are convenient to them, or they think are necessary. Neutral characters will usually follow the rules because they generally lead to a better outcome for them. However, they can break the rules if they believe the benefits to them outweigh the risks.
Good characters care about others and act in ways that help and benefit them. They protect the innocent, defend the weak, and go out of their way to help other people.
Neutral Good characters do their best to help others, but they do it because they want to, not because they have been told to by a person in authority or by society’s laws. They are governed and led by their own conscience. They are generally your regular ‘good’ person. Neutral Good characters are in the middle of the ethical axis because they believe that some rules and order are useful in society to a point, but only when individuals are still generally free to do what they want on a daily basis. They are aware that too much order can restrict people’s freedoms, but likewise, that too much freedom can lead to societal collapse and people making decisions that negatively affect others.
While they will generally follow the rules and laws of society, Neutral Good characters do so because they lead to good outcomes, rather than because they feel obliged to by authority figures and institutions. If a person in authority tries to use their power to restrict the Neutral Good character’s freedom, they will not be happy and may rebel. In a similar way, a Neutral Good character will mislead, break promises, and take things that don’t belong to them to further the greater good. A Neutral Good person will break the rules if they are doing it for the greater good and they will feel confident and justified in their actions.
A Neutral Good character will always to try to solve things peacefully because they believe that life should be protected. They will try to calm down situations with talk, minimize harm or get opponents in the leg or arm to spare their life. They will always be merciful if asked and would never use poison.
However, if left with no choice they will eliminate a character to defend themselves and others.
When working with others, a Neutral Good character is trustworthy and loyal to friends and allies. They are effective in a group, providing that group is seeking to do Good.

Contacts & Relations
Enemy: A Rival
In college, there was another student that she frequently competed with for resources such as spaces in colleges events, scholarships, jobs and the like. His name was Ingram Britton Morton and he was a major thorn in her side for four years.Friendship: A Rival
After college, she and Ingram both got hired by the Seattle Public Library - Central Library and have since become good friends. They now often fondly recall their college rival days.Windfall: Earned Favor
She gave advice to someone at the right time and it led to that person getting promoted. They are now grateful. Milford Donald Boothman will do what he can to help her. She can call on them for a single favor a level, or one big favor that will resolve the obligation. The debt is owed by a single person who can or will only supply oneself. A relative nobody but who obviously has connections she doesn't know about (he has connections to the Shadow Kind, specifically with Deld).Friendship: The Fey Doctor
Donald Fulton Dean and her met at the library. Over time they became friends. They now frequently go out for coffee or lunch. There has always been something special about him and she loves the way that he always comes to the library and reads so many books. They have been friends for several years now.Family Ties
Both her parents are alive and living in Seattle. Her family has had its highs and lows, but she had nothing to complain about. They are just the average family. She has 3 siblings: a slightly younger sister (Laura Lorna Dabney), a slightly older sister (Charisse Cary Dabney) and a slightly older brother (Leslie Avery Dabney). Laura and her are not on speaking terms; they hate each other. They just never seemed to see eye to eye while growing up and haven’t been able to reconcile that as adults. Much of this conflict is surrounding religion and Margaret's choice to get cybernetic implants. Charisse loves her, but they don’t see eye to eye. Charisse thinks that Margaret spends far too much time in her books and not enough time with other people or at church. She also disapproves of the cybernetic implants. The relationship with Leslie is the standard sibling fair. There is the mix of love and rivalry that most sibling relationships have. All of these siblings are living in Seattle and are pursuing their careers. None are married yet nor have children.
Enemy: Blood
Somewhere along the way, her relationship with her younger sister Laura has become that of enemies. They would just as soon see each other burn than anything else. There is no way that either of them can tell you when or why this hatred between them began, but there is no denying that it’s there now. Whenever they are both at family events, they do their best to make the other loose face in front of the family.Relationships
