The Hero Reborn

What force other than the Hero of Wind and Storm could ever hope to end this war?
— Thelikan, High Priest of the Faronite Church (124-178 SA)

Few people have had an impact comparable to that of Faron. But who could compare to the man that broke the yoke of the Eternal Empire and set humanity free? Is it any wonder then that in times of chaos such as this current age, there is a wish or even dream to see that hero return?

A World without a Leader

When Faron died in 53 SA, he left behind a world in dire need of leadership. While there still remained many of the Liberators around, none held nearly the same respect or admiration. It was left to figures such as Kyros the Great to build the new world order. Faron was duly raised to godhood several years later, but long before another story had begun to make its way throughout the land.   People spoke of the hero and how his mission was not yet finished. How the taint of Uranon remained and could not be brought down by mere mortal hand. It was therefor said that one day, the great Hero of Wind and Storm would return to unite humanity once more and smite the great abomination out of the skies.

...And on that dark day it came to pass that Faron himself was slain by...[This section of the prophecy had been expunged] blade. His mission unfinished, the world left in chaos...   ...Great was the wail of mankind on that day and even greater the cry of triumph uttered by the great abomination in the skies. The shadow of Uranon darkened on this day and the chaos it sowed could not be expunged...   ...For now dawned the true Age of the Storm...[This section of the prophecy had been expunged]...and all mankind cries out for the guiding hand to reach out once more...   But in the far future, in days when the Red Land is caught between the singing of sand and the roaring of ice, when stars may fall and scarlet pillars breach the iron roof, then there will be life where death struck oh so long ago.   The Hero will return. Their form wrath and their voice thunder. They will bring with them reckoning. And the taint of abomination shall be scorched forever.

Faith and Prophecy

When the Faronite Church emerged in the 60s SA, the prophecy had already spread far and wide. At first, the fathers and mothers of the new faith had little appreciation for this tale that seemed to contradict their own idea of Faron as a god made man.   The resulting schism saw war erupt across much of the continent. But no matter how much the church attempted to stamp out the tale, there seemed no end to those willing to share it. Peace was eventually made and the prophecy taken in as part of Church canon.   Since that day nearly two centuries ago, mankind has waited for the moment that the hero will show themselves again.

It is fascinating to think about. How will Faron be reborn? Will he look the same? Be a man or a woman? Will they know who they are from the beginning? And if not...could their spirit be turned from good?
— Lysander, Ninth Prince of Iskendria (279 - 331 SA)

Heart of Starglass   One thing that lend the Prophecy weight was the fact that it had been hewn into the mass of Starglass that forms the heart of Faranon long before the Church was ever created. Who did it or when has never been conclusively established and the Church never dared to try and destroy it, even at the height of its purges.   The Last Line   Some parts of the text appear to have been expunged, leaving many guessing about their contents. A few even whisper that Faron's death did not come about naturally. Others claim that the true last line of the text contained a warning. Whatever the truth of what was expunged and who did the deed, it likely was lost in the long years of the Storm Age.
