Finorrian Republic

The Finorrian Republic claimed to be the successor of the mythical Finorrian Union, which was said to be a perfect union of all races, spanning the entire world. The Republic expanded through a combination of conquest and diplomacy, and at its height, controlled the majority of Dukhala. It collapsed following one and a half centuries of decline caused primarily by the cyclic cooling of Ura's northern hemisphere.

History

The city of Finorrium is supposed to have existed for millennia, though records only date back some 2,000 years due to the cyclic cooling and warming of each of Ura's hemispheres. The senate of the city, with the blessing of the Teghneist Harbinger, formed a federation of city states on the seventh of Sevomen, 647BW. This federation initially spanned most of what is now known as Old Finorr, and had the stated goal of restoring the Finorrian Union.   Within a decade of its formation, the League of Finorrium had expanded southwards through diplomacy and intimidation to contain the region now called New Finorr, including the city of Bierg-Ufer. On the tenth anniversary of the League's formation, the Finorrian Republic with proclaimed, once again with the blessing of the Harbinger. This prompted an invasion by Sou'elia, which first occupied Talaugin, before its forces moved into New Finorr. The Sou'elians were defeated by a joint Geedan-Finorrian army, which then liberated Talaugin. Following the Sou'elo-Finorrian War, the Gnomes of Talaugin voted to join the new republic.   The Finorrian Republic continued expanding, peacefully absorbing the small Human polities of the Goudil Hills, before launching a series of military campaigns in Sennorr. These campaigns were initially interventions in ongoing wars, but as more Finorrian forces moved into the region, the Republic eventually began to seize control of some cities, before demanding the submission of all city states in the region. The last city state to fall was Yelmondton, which was besieged for 31 years before it fell in a a bloody assault.   In 544BW, the Finorrian Republic began an invasion of Varofia, which was completely subjugated in 538BW. In 521BW, the city of Varoselum was established, which over the next two centuries became the largest Human city on the continent. Following the subjugation of the last Human realms, the Halflings of the Dusklands and the Dwarves of Isel swore fealty to the Republic, and the Enorian Elves ceded the region of Soufirs to Finorrium. The Republic reached its territorial peak in 497BW after the subjugation of the Orcish tribes north of the Crescent Range. None of the multiple attempts to invade Sou'elia succeeded, nor did an attempt to assist Galbed in gaining independence from Zeebda.   The Republic's expansion halted for over five centuries, during which time it experienced an extended age of prosperity. However, the Republic became destablisied as the northern hemisphere began to cool once again, resulting in crop failures, the death of livestock, and other hardships. Finorrium became uninhabitable in 56YD, and the senate moved to the newly-built city of Bierg-Finsel, while the Harbinger relocated to Varoselum. By 83YD, the Republic collapsed under the pressure of famine, Orcish and Drow invasions, and depopulation caused by migration to Colossia. On the 5th of Twelonth, 83YD, the Finorrian Senate dissolved the Finorrian Republic, and established the Republic of Vesnorr.
