Seven Tones Hall
Sphere: Academic
During the Steel Rule, the Sepelio family held the city of Ur in their grip from their ancestral palace of Seven Tones Hall. Holding high offices in all of the Orders, their word was law, and their enemies hounded and humiliated. During the purges of the Second Republic, they were slaughtered to the last child, and ownership of Seven Tones Hall defaulted to the Council of Orders. Fearing further conflict, the Council came to a compromise - the palace was gifted to the Clock Tower. It was taken over by the rapidly growing College of Truth.
Seven Tones Hall is a dark, blocky structure, crafted entirely from imported basalt, with high, narrow windows and thick walls that reflect the paranoid attitudes of its builders. Inside, gleaming marble and elegant tapestries mix with disorganised research offices and harassed students. The seven great bells for which the Hall is named have long since been silenced, but each of them still marks a section of the building with its corresponding department:
- The Sorrowful Bell at the southernmost point of the palace houses the Department of Stratigraphy
- The Joyful Bell at the northernmost point of the palace houses the Department of Phrenology
- The Concord Bell at the centre of the East Wing houses the Department of Humorism
- The Stripling Bell at the back of the East Wing houses the Department of Viriditas
- The Bounty Bell at the centre of the West Wing houses the Department of Chrysopoeia
- The Humble Bell at the back of the West Wing houses the Department of Eschatology
- The Secret Bell at the very centre of the palace houses the Department of Numerology
