Wes'Alom

The jewel of the Al'Badadi Empire and center of Al'Quam culture, Wes'Alom is a thriving port city in the Telentia River Plains, on the western coast of Ur'En. The name, rather uninspiringly in Al'Quami means, "City in the West." It is one of the most populous places in the known world, rivaling even Druj and Lagash. Wes'Alom is located where the Telentia river empties into the Istaril Sea and most of the people and goods in the entire empire flow through here. It is also the capital of an empire in decline, desperate to cling to its former glory.

Demographics

Most of the inhabitants of the city are Al'Quam Radashi with smaller populations of Rajji, Shivra and even some Skeggi. There is a sizable settled Kalari population that lives in special slum districts. The city supports a tiny Unseelie Court enclave to help diplomatic relations between the two.

The city hosts no small number of peoples of all species brought here through Slavery. They perform everything from manual labor on the docks to important scribes in the palace.

Government

Being the capital of the Al'Badadi Empire, the city is nominally ruled by Empress Shimi'Badadi. The empress typically has more pressing issues than the day-to-day affairs of the city. She leaves most of the administration of Wes'Alom to a council of trusted bureaucrats.

Defences

The city proper is protected by high stone walls, its ramparts patrolled night and day by the guard. The harbor is flanked by defensive towers manned by specialist spellcasters to defend the city from attacks by shipborne invaders as well as a small defensive armada.

Infrastructure

The royal palace dominates the city, it's dome can be seen for many miles around. It's a sprawling complex, being not only the residence of the Empress but also the administrative center of the empire. Many of its most crucial offices and documents are housed throughout the palace, as well as the royal guard garrison.
The most impressive feat of engineering the city boasts are the Hanging Gardens of Wes'Alom. The beauty of this place is known throughout Ur'En, inspiring generations of poets and artists.
