Radashi

"The Radashi are just like everyone else, only more-so"
-Common Proverb

The Radashi are a species of sentient mammalian humanoids. Radashi are native to Ur'En and have spread across the continent. Radashi are versatile, able to adapt to just about any climate or habitat. Radashi are the most numerous of the sentient species of Ur'En.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Radashi are humanoids. They stand on two legs, with two arms and a head. Radashi stand between 15 and 20 hands tall and weigh between 7 and 16 stone. Males are slightly larger than females. They tend to be lithe and muscular and rarely become obese. Radashi often have hair on their heads with very little over the rest of their bodies. Some but not all males can grow facial hair.

Radashi have vaguely feline facial features, including small flat noses, slitted pupils, and two sets of pointed ears. They possess small tusks that protrude from their lower jaws. Most Radashi have horns, with an astonishing variety of shapes and placement. A Radashi's horns grow throughout their life, with venerable individuals sporting truly impressive sets.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Radashi's physical appearance is the sheer staggering variety of colors they can be found in. This applies to both their skin, hair, and horns. These range through every hue in the rainbow as well as white, grey and black. Some Radashi have patterns to their coloration, from stripes to spots or blotches, while others are a single solid color.

Radashi coloration tends to cluster according to geographic region. The Radashi of the far south such as Hrol tend to be white or grey with light blue patterns. Those hailing from the Autumal Isle tend twards reds, tellow and oranges. Moving northward, the Radashi of the Southern Steppe feature a green and grey scheme while their northern neighbors in the Rajjahid Jungle have deeper green with brown patternation. The Radashi livng in the Telentia River Plains and Redlands feature the colors of their native region, with many yellow, red and brown earth-tones. The small populations in the Blood Swamps and Zordal Forest present deep-red and blue/purple colors respectively. The natives to the Corsair's Coast are sea-green and blue. In the north, on the Heartfire Isles, the Radashi are often black with red patterns like island lava. Those of the Hakarim Forest perhaps stand out with most with pink and purple hues.

Growth Rate & Stages

Radashi give birth to live young. Children will take approximately 15 years to mature.

Ecology and Habitats

Radashi are found in almost any environment. From the arid heat of the Redlands to the bitter cold of the Azure Fields.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Radashi are omivores, able to eat both plant and animal matter. The tend to favor high calorie foods such as fruits and grains, and high-fat meats.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Radashi have keen senses. Their eyes are well adapted to the darkness. A Radashi's double set of ears allow them to hear a huge range of frequencies, often that other creatures cannot and their wet noses enable powerful sense of smell.

Civilization and Culture

History

Each Radashi culture has its own account of history that extends far back into the fog of legend and myth. Many groups believe themselves the original Radashi on Ur'En. What can be inferred is that Radashi spread across Ur'En long before their invention of agriculture or writing. They likely started as nomadic hunter/gatherer tribes, following the mega-fauna of Ur'En.

The Historical account begins several thousand years ago at the dawn of agriculture. The Radashi were likely the first species on the continent to invent farming techniques, doing so independently in three places around the same time period. Three distinct Radashi cultures emerged from these, the Al'Quam along the Telentia River, the Rajji near Druj and the Shivra near Lagash. From here, these cultures spread across their distinct regions, evolving and sometimes diverging as they went. Sea travel enabled further diversification of cultures, such as the Skeggi of the southern seas.

It wasn't until the accounts of Tobias The Explorer began to circulate that the Radashi from far distant places began to even learn, however inaccurately, of the existence of others of their kind. Still, today, most Radashi identify with their cultures much more strongly than with their species.
