Lake Sadin
Lake Sadin is a huge oasis near the center of the Golden Sands. The lake is the best source of freshwater in the desert. The magnificent city of Des'Alom sits along its shores, and while no trade vessels ply its shores, plenty of recreational craft can be seen on a temperate day, at least before Sol's rays grow too oppressive.
Geography
The lake is several miles in diameter, with lush green shorelines all around.The lake is the largest source of freshwater in the desert, but its source is unknown. The unrelenting heat would quickly dry the lake to dust were its waters not replenished but as of yet, the origin phenomena is a mystery. The lake is surprisingly deep, and divers cannot reach its depths without the assistance of magic. The waters of the lake are pristine and clear, enough to see clearly to great depth, though not quite the bottom.
Fauna & Flora
Lake Sadin supports a plethora of plant and animal life. Trees, ferns and grasses turn its golden shores green with their leaves. The lake is a natural watering hole for many desert creatures, who often travel great distances to return here. Some of the life found here is unique, or seen in varieties and numbers found nowhere else. Massive schools of fish and aquatic reptiles ply the waters. Birds of paradise, their colors displaying every hue of the rainbow sometimes take flight in massive flocks that blot out Sol and Dis alike.
The shores are far from safe however. Many predators are drawn to the water as surely as their prey. Large ambush predators like the Titanodile lurk near the shore, hungrily awaiting an unsuspecting meal. Some of the denizens of the water grow to enormous sizes, though thankfully seldom bothering the surface.
There is a persistant rumor that a gargantuan entity lives withing the deepest parts of the lake. This leviathan is only ever seen far from shore, on nights when the moon's light is scarce. It would be easy to dismiss these claims as drunken rablings or superstisous gossip if boats sailing on moonless nights didn't occasionally disappear, only to return days later, intact but derelict.
