Mors Magicae

Mors Magicae is perhaps the most dreaded spell of United Britannia and Hibernia. Caused by Dark Magic, once casted the victim will fall pray to Mortem.

Effect

Mors Magicae produces Mortem, a disease which will sap the witch of all magic and kill them. However, it may take months or even years to come to that, and the victim typically suffers immensely, adding another ghoulish layer to the spell.

Side/Secondary Effects

Those casting Mors Magicae must be absolutely certain of their abilities to do so; if the spell goes wrong, it will instantly backfire and most likely kill the witch casting it. If the witch manages to cast the spell but it is not strong enough, the victim will likely be sick for several weeks but will eventually gain their magic back.

Manifestation

Unfortunately, a witch cannot tell when Mors Magicae has been cast on them until the first (or more often second) stage of Mortem appears.

Discovery

Mortem was first discovered in the 750s CE. However, the spell required to conjure Mortem was not discovered until several centuries later, in about the 950s CE. The only reason witches learned of Mors Magicae was through the torture of a less than reputable witch.

Level
This spell is extremely complex, and as such, only the most talented and powerful of witches can utilize it.
Applied Restriction
For obvious reasons, this spell is absolutely forbidden in United Britannia and Hibernia.   Only a witch born with Dark Magic can cast it. Additionally, a Dark witch cannot cast it on another Dark witch; they are considered brethren and not to be disposed of in such a way.
