War of Flesh

The Conflict

Prelude

The consortium of Higher knowledge would fund an expedition, with backing from King Stephan, to look for Vedalken ruins in the dangerous areas of the swamp. During the expedition they found the cause of the Catmen cataclysm myth. Fearing the result of the information getting out Gleameyes tried to kill the rest of the party, with the others escaping.   News of the incident would spread through both cultures, this led to the Catmen forbidding the island and Stephan would fund more expeditions.

Deployment

While no armies were martialled or an official declaration of war.
  • Several Catmen tribes would resettle in the area around the Flesh isle.
  • Rivell would send several more expeditions, with a large number of guards.

The Engagement

Most battles were skirmishes between boats and tribes. The tribes would often attack boats and sink them in water, leaving the entire expedition dead. This would lead to a lot of expedients being sunk before they even reached the island.

Outcome

Stephan would call off future expeditions, as well as trade from the Eastern Mangroves drying up as the area became more isolationist. Though no true battles were fought, it would count by others as a Lacertillian lose.

Historical Significance

In Literature

Rivell would start to demonise the catmen, portraying them as cruel shadow bogymen of the swamps. Several plays, songs, and pieces of art would come out with Catmen as the villains.

Technological Advancement

Ship technology jumped during the conflict, with Basq rolling out shallow ships as well as steel framed ships with sharp rams to cut through obstacles, a development added to the sister Lyzzura class flagships.
