Jamnaria

Jamnaria marks the only major crossing of the river Vala. Founded by a fledging Empire of Akoom to protect its northern border, using Dwarf architects, the town barely takes the room of a large motte and bailey, it is however tall with some sections being seven floors tall from the bridge. The bridge has never fallen, even during the collapse of the Empire, it's Justicar ruler deciding independence after the collapse of the Empire.

History

Bridge fort

Originally built as a pair of castles with a bridge in between, Jamnaria was to defend from raiders in the north. This also made it a perfect launching point for the crusades into the Lowlands. During this time the Vala was also widened, forcing the bridge to be extended and new gatehouses built at either end.

Military town

With the increase in military personnel within the Fort by five-hundred Rebel, a town started to spring up around the south side of the town, realizing the security risk a platform was built to the east within the river. This platform was built up with a second being added on the west towards the end of the Rebel Age. An agreement with Crestfall also led to the Vala not only being widened but deepened, allowing for larger side platforms, the bridge once again being extended.

Inpregnable

During the fall of the Empire of Akoom, multiple forces tried to sack the city with every attempt smashing against the walls harmlessly. The closest came from the fourth siege, led by Jindrai, the Greatwrym broke through the first gatehouse with his power, only for the army to be destroyed along with that section of the bridge. In the final siege of the rebellions, a Rivellian prince claimed no castle was truly impregnable, launching a night attack. His body was found the next morning downriver, his army still waiting for the gates to open.

Fortress of Valanor

Fed up the Justicar in charge declared independence from the Empire. Once again using the bridge as a launching post, he conquered the surrounding region, renaming the area Valanor, after the river that was their greatest asset. The city has prospered ever since, growing to a massive structure.

Parts of the Bridge

Rather than districts, the bridge is split into parts.

Outer bridge

Each end of the bridge is dominated by large gatehouses with a hundred-meter road behind it. The only access to the inside of the gatehouse is via a raised platform that runs on either side of the bridge from a fort at the end of the road. Underneath these sections also houses Lacertillian devices to blow them up should they ever be lost to the enemy.

Central bridge

An eight-hundred-meter road joins the two outer bridges. This starts with a military fort at either end, with the bridge castles sitting two-hundred meters after the forts. Steps next to each castle lead down the platforms on either side. Two tunnels are built under the bridge between the fort and castle allowing ships to pass through. The Military forts themselves holding everything needed to keep a force of two hundred men supplied.

The North castle

The true center of military power within the city, the north castle holds everything to run a military from training rooms, barracks, armories, blacksmiths, and a shrine to Akoom. Holding a thousand men at a time, with reserves living within the city.

The south castle

The Justicar's castle, the southern castle is the seat of power within Valanor, housing not only the royal quarters of the king but the council chambers, treasury, royal guard, and palace guard. The floor above the road is dedicated to the guard while the proper castle starts the floor above that, with a gatehouse protecting the entrance to the second floor.

undercity

Underneath the two platforms and the central bridge itself is a network of tunnels and silt islands. This is the undercity that frequently floods and what counts as a slum for the city. It is rumored that a few Lizardmen and Ratmen also dwell in this area. This area also provides fish to the city as a whole, making the living conditions slightly better than most slums.

The platforms

The town itself is split into two seven-story platforms, The first-floor level with the Bridge road. Nobles live on the upper floors with the lower floors being set aside for industry and storage. Each side claims self-sufficiency with the surplus going to the military and King. Animals from the Dwarf Underempire were brought in to provide meat while Villa farms on the top floor grow vegetables and cotton. They lack luxury products and iron, however, importing that from its kingdom.
