Ooze Species in Under an Iron Sky | World Anvil

Ooze

"Oh look at the cute slime. It smells really bad though."   "That is not a slime. That is a ooze."   "Is it going to eat me?!"   "Only if it touches you."

Basic Information

Anatomy

Different oozes look different but they all have no bones or muscle structure. They keep their form with the help of their cell wall and membrane.

Biological Traits

Oozes can look different from each other. There are no gender roles between them because they are asexual and have no gender. The basic difference between different oozes are classified as pudding, gelatinous cube, normal ooze, and ochre jelly.

Genetics and Reproduction

Oozes can reproduce asexually. This happens when it divides itself or is split in half. But if the membrane is cut or damaged the ooze will die.

Ecology and Habitats

Oozes like to live in dark places. They can be found in dark caves and underground cities. They like nice cool locations that are not either extreme. If a cave or dark place seems too clean it might be an ooze lair.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Oozes will eat anything that can dissolve into itself. Organic matter will dissolve more easily in the ooze. The process is will be painful if the victim is alive. The slow process of the ooze's eating habits does have an advantage. As a friend or ally is being slowly eaten alive a party will have a chance to save their friend.

Additional Information

Domestication

Oozes can't really be domesticated. Their need to eat anything is too strong and they will try to eat their "owners" if given a chance. The best way to "tame" an ooze is to understand what it needs and what it hates. Fire and bright lights will stop the ooze from going toward it. The ooze doesn't like bright lights and will stay away from them. This makes it easy to lure the ooze into a pit trap. As long as the ooze is well fed it will not leave the pit. The pit can then be used as a trap.

Average Intelligence

The ooze is not a smart creature. Its main thoughts are on basic needs normally hungry. The ooze only acts on hungry and other sensory data. There are some oozes that seem to be smarter than others.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The ooze can see, hear, and smell. It might be able to taste but no one knows for sure. The ooze can see lights and fire and it states away from bright lights.
