Dragon Fever Condition in Under an Iron Sky | World Anvil

Dragon Fever

How can someone cure greed?
In order for someone to get Dragon Fever, they do not have to meet a dragon or find a dragon's treasure trove. Those two factors do help in getting the fever among other dragons though. How mortals get it is a little more complicated. People who suffer from Dragon Fever are normally obsessed with a valuable item. This item can be anything from a coin collection to a sock collection. The key is being obsessed with the item personally, and so much the "real" value of the item. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and so is an item's value. It is important to remember while dealing with Dragon Fever that it is a magical illness.

Causes

Dragon fever is caused when someone loves treasure too much. Of course, not all treasure is silver and gold and can be anything that anyone sees as valuable. The treasure is normally in large quantities and is rarely a single person. Common treasures that cause the fever are gold, gems, and books.

Symptoms

The most common symptom of Dragon Fever is insanity, but that is the final symptom. The other symptoms include a high fever, intense thirst, and insomnia. The fever is like any common cold, but the suffer doesn't normally realize that they have it until insomnia starts to set in. The thirst can not be cured by drinking water, because it is a kind of thirst to add more to the treasure trove. Insomnia is a lack of sleep or having trouble sleeping. This effects the suffer making it hard to go to sleep or stay asleep because the thoughts of adding to the trove are is too great. Then finally insanity normally showing itself with a lack of trust in others.

Treatment

There are two forms of treatment. One of these forms was recently found. The older and more well-known treatment is having the suffer give the treasure away. But they have to do it willingly, so it is the most difficult treatment. Since it flies in the face of the illness.   What has been recently found out is that though is that therapy can help. Talk therapy is the best way to start to get a suffer to want to give up the treasure. But even if the suffer is able to give up the treasure they will still need therapy to stop the fever from flaring up again.

Prevention

One of the best ways to prevent getting Dragon Fever is to not horde items. Another great way is to give away items that are starting to look like a horde. Throwing away items can help as well. Avoiding people and places where you are more apt to start coveting items is good too.
