Tribune Civalus

The Tribune Civalus is not a mandatory step on the road of political life, but it is an important one. This Tribune consists of six people picked every year from among the ranks of the Questus. For one year these people form a comity in charge of the public works of the City of Ahntier, and the Empire at large. Their decisions direct the work to be done int he city directly, and what will receive funding throughout the empire. By decree of the Tribune Civalus are monuments raised, aqueducts maintained, roads built, and new techniques researched.   On top of these duties the Tribune Civalus is also tasked with setting up traditional festivals, and can enact new ones at their own whim. Such events are the heart of the office, and the Senators chosen often spend lavishly to be known for their festivals. Many throw new holidays in order to gain favor with more powerful factions by honoring old members, or even the families of sitting Senators. Many hope to simply gain popularity by giving citizens a day off from their labors to enjoy a party.

Qualifications

  • 35 years of age.
  • 1 term as Questus.
  • 10 years of military service.

Requirements

Beyond the age and service requirements, a person must show they have a working knowledge of civil engineering to take on this job. The applicant must either have completed a course at the academy in this particular field, or have a list of such experience to pass.

Appointment

At the end of each year the Rex Maxum reviews the applicants for the position. He narrows the perspective individuals down to ten choices, which are then giving tot he sitting Princepts. The Princepts then choose, and the appointments go into effect at the start of the next year.

Duties

The duties of the Tribune Civalus are to the growth and health of the city of Ahntier and her Empire. The Tribune must make sure that the streets and public buildings are clean, that the bath houses and state eateries function, and that clean water flows. The agree to what techniques of construction and agriculture must be used, or which should be studied more closely. The Tribune Civalus keeps the Empire from literally falling apart.

  • Assign budget for infrastructure.
  • Finance civil academic pursuits.
  • Ensure maintenance projects for critical infrastructure.
  • Order the construction of any kind of building or project.
  • Host festivals and holidays.

Benefits

The station of Tribune Civalus allows a member to make a name for themselves. Through the parties they through, and the monuments they build, or the works they have completed, they can build a political brand. On top of that, being part of the Civalus allows one to utilize all public works assets. If a tribune Civalus wants to add an addition to their home, free of personal charge, they have the authority to do so. Even if they might face public opinion for it. The position also comes with a substantial salary, and the right to wear the Cival seal, which denotes a person as an expert in the field of civil engineering.

Accoutrements & Equipment

  • While serving the Tribune, a Senator wears a yellow sash.
  • Upon acceptance, a Senator is awarded the Seal Cival.
  • while not official, it is not uncommon for a Senators house to receive a few remodels during their term.
  • Each Tribune is given a stipend so spend on festivals and holidays.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Only the sitting Princept can decide to remove a Tribune Civalus, and their reasons must be ratified by the Senate. the most common reason for removal is usually misuse of state funds.
