Tragic Aura

悲惨的光环 - Bēicǎn de guānghuán

The History

The Nomads

During the second carnation, what would be Eastern Meta was still full of several nomadic ethnicities, each of which would be split into several more cultures respectively. Of these the most notable was the Edipherous, named after the deity they worshipped. After some internal struggles within the Edipherous, half the group splintered off into a sect in search of a place to permanently live.

Separation and Exploration

After several years of traveling the land, and a handful of changes in leadership, a location was chosen in the North Central portion of Meta. As for the then leader of the sect, they were given first dibs on where they would going to stay, that entire section within the land would be named and influenced by him and his family for generations to come. They definitely were considered an important historical figure, seeing as they founded the place, but they weren't worshipped or adored throughout the rest of their life, nor after they died.

Features

The colony provided a unique and difficult to master type of magic/abilities and related resources. It's equally unique geographical features made it a sight of beauty and would soon turn it into a prestigious trade center. It was also an increasing artistic/creative destination as the colony grew and would evolve from its nomadic roots. The elemental resource that could be found in a variety of different matters, states, and forms. This resource was unique to the colony and hard to mine/grow/harvest; they develop a sort of magical and extraordinary ability. They also intertwine bits and pieces from other cultures that visit them to create new traditions and beliefs. Due to their geographical location, they are easily defended and hard to track from outsiders who were not given permission in.

Trade Route

There is a high demand for the resource from the outside world, but because it is so hard to find and obtain, it is expensive and rare. Because of the huge difference between supply and demand, lots of jobs become available in an attempt to meet this, which creates a prosperous environment within the colony. However, as more people travel to Halo for this resource, merchants from distant places see it as an opportunity to sell their goods and trade with others. This relationship is generally healthy, as the people of Halo are fascinated by the world they've never met before, and it only ever increases the outside world's awareness for the trading potential to be found in the colony. It disrupted native fauna, as the colony grew in popularity, it negativity changed habits of the ecosystem surrounding them, that even to this day haven't been solved. Certain species started to diminish at an alarming rate due to the colonists staying put in one place as opposed to constantly moving. This drastically changed the chain within the ecosystem and a few species died out altogether.

Opinions

Good opinions

Many splinter groups from other nomadic tribes did look up to these colonists, they saw a figure of independence and the ability to make your own decisions. There have been a handful of such groups who attempted identical courses of actions, but ultimately failed due to either not enough people to support the group, or the location they chose was very poor.

Bad opinions

There is lingering resentment between the colonists and the origin nomadic peoples. Even though the long distance didn't last for a big period of time, it created a sense of difference and alienation between the colonists and the nomads. Freedom and independence were gained for colonists at the same time as they splintered off the nomads. However, when it became clear that the nomadic lifestyle was dying, it was the original group that became tied to and in debt of the colonists.

Indifferent

Halo has a rocky relationship with its founding group, one more of desperation and the will to survive than friendship and charity. The founding group was on the verge of extinction, so they sought out the colony for help; and in return members of the origin group take on jobs of agriculture, in leveling and controlling the levels within the soon-to-be kingdom for produce, and scout/hunt the lands surrounding the colony. There were inner problems between the colonists and the nomads, but also between the nomads and foreign refugees. The nomads, in general, didn't like living there, even several generations in they wanted to move freely across the land.

Maps

Below are two maps, the first is of the old world, and shows the different routes Edipherous(orange) and the Splinter(red) group took on their journeys. The Second shows the modern world, and how the destruction of Halo left a scar on the earth as well as the settlements(yellow) and ramnant camps(pink).

Organization | Nov 4, 2020
Way back in, I think SummerCamp I wrote a small entry about a place I had floating in my mind, however, it was not fully realized and was far from what the original idea was. And as of late I've been wanting to just entirely save old articles and ideas to be reused some other time, so while this old old old version of Halo is still in article format, it is not canon like the current article you are reading now.

The Land of Halo and the inspiration for its culture is that of China, while it may not be apparent now, that's because with this new history I am simply trying to get the creative side out before I go back post-challenge to do more research and make things more accurate. In that regards, if you know that something may seem a bit offensive or incorrect please feel free to let me know, as while I try to be aware to sensitive cultural facts I have no intentions of upsetting anyone.
