Weaponry in Ullthwaygon | World Anvil

Weaponry

Overview

Weaponry is one of the main ways a character might interact with the world. A way to exert their force and will on others or more hopeful defend the innocent or their homeland.   Weaponry is separated into the following major types:   Melee, Ranged, Explosive & Other   It is then further diversified by its more specific category, such as Sword, Bow, Grenade or Badger.   Some weapons blur the line between categories and quite a few weapons have the capacity for attacks of different types. For instance, an Axe may be good for hit something but might also be built for throwing. Whereas a rifle may have attached a bayonet that allows for a powerful melee attack.

Weight Grades

Weapons have associated weight grades which represent their impact and speed of use. These are:   Fine - Light - Medium - Heavy - Great   eg. Knife - Rapier - Cutlass - Longsword - Greatsword 'or' Sling - Pistol - Crossbow - Longbow - Warbow   The way each weapon-grade handles goes into more detail on their respective page (once done) but it essentially comes down to lighter weapons doing less damage but having more hits and heavier weapons dealing greater damage but allowing for fewer chances to hit.

Skill & Proficiency

How good a person if with their weapon depends on many factors, chiefly amounts them is their skill and experience. For ease of use this is broadly categorised into the following levels of experience:   Novice - Adept - Expert - Master - Legend   Almost all weapons can be used reasonably effectively if a little close by even those without any experience in using them. Only those with complicated mechanisms or that are particularly difficult to be used will be lost on those without any experience.   The main advantage however to having more experience in a weapon learning more powerful and different ways to use them. You also gain a growing modifier on your damage and to hit chance as you gain more levels of experience. In addition, most weapons have an array of more powerful perks that unlock with a high level of experience with them; Such as being able to overcome a level of damage resistance by striking with high precision.   Proficiency with weapons is gained in a similar way to character expirance, only on a sperate scale to class levels. Many classes backgrounds will provide some level of starting proficiency with weapon. But the best way to level up your experience with them is simply to use them in combat. Though you can also seek out a professional to train you in their use during your downtime, if you have the coin that is.
