Early Life
Sigurd was raised from birth as a Berserkr and a Víkingr. He was aboard ships since before he could walk and he set out on his first raid at the age of 13.Captaincy
By the age of 22, Sigurd was named Skeppare of the Drakkar, Odin's Spear, the largest and most heavily decorated ship in his Jarl's fleet. He led dozens of successful raids in his 5 years as Skeppare.Marriage
In 812 AS, Sigurd married his long-time companion Alfhild, a brave shieldmaiden who he had loved and fought beside his whole life.Siege of Avalon
In 815 AS, Sigurd was chosen by a group of six Jarls to lead more than two dozen other ships, to Avalon. They were launching the largest invasion the North had ever seen. The Seidrs deemed it risky, prophesizing great loss but the Jarls refused to listen, blinded but the easy treasure they had been collecting for nearly 20 years. They made it to Avalon where they were met with very little resistance, at least for the first few months. After a few small-scale raids, the Northmen set their sights higher, they launched an attack on one of the largest holy cities in Avalon. They laid siege for hours and just when it seemed the walls were about to fall, a cloaked figure emerged from the gate. An older man, carrying naught but a staff. He walked slowly and purposefully out the gates resting his weight on his staff as he strode until he reached the edge of the field. Accounts of what happened after become very panicked and jumbled, however, the things that do remain consistent, men fleeing, fires burning, impenetrable darkness, blood-curdling screams, boiling flesh. Barely one-third of the warriors that set out to Avalon returned home and the ones that did were no longer whole.Return
Sigurd was one of the lucky few who made it back to a ship. Some of his crew found him in a fevered state missing his right arm, burned clean off at the shoulder. They managed to drag him aboard the Odin's Spear and keep him alive on the journey home. Misfortune continued to strike the crew, however, as a massive storm destroyed their ship and left them stranded in Troll lands. Between the wreck, the brutal cold, and the massive beasts only Sigurd survived. He made his way up the highest mountain in the area, a glacier covering a volcano, taking shelter in a cave near the top. There he waited, expecting to die frozen and alone, forced to relive the visions of the dragon on the black banner killing all his friends and family. He waited and waited until he started to feel a warmth deeper in the cave. He dragged himself to his feet and trudged into the cave, deeper than he thought possible. It is said he found the fire of Muspelheim inside that cave. No matter what he found, a new man emerged, he stepped out with an arm of solid obsidian, one that could call the fires of Muspelheim itself.Coronation
