Jarl

A Jarl is the leader of a clan, they may or may not be pledged to a King. The Jarls who do follow a King are often only loosely attached
Even though they were a leader and ruler, a Jarl was expected to fight and raid beside their people, not necessarily in every battle but in at least the larger ones. They often served as Hersir in these instances or Skeppare.

Qualifications

A Jarl has often served as a Thegn for a previous Jarl or as a Hersir but the only true qualification is one who has the support of his followers and leads a clan.

Responsibilities

A Jarl is tasked with overseeing the wellbeing of their clan. They make appointments to positions within their clan, such as Hersir in times of war, Thegns to oversee towns within their lands, and raid leaders.

Benefits

A Jarl receives the largest share from raids since they usually supply the raid.
