A Currency of Independence

Following the creation of the Council of Mist, many moojgrabi and tuq norl societies were violently thrust into a world of economics and trading that far outstripped the simple life of cultivation they had lived prior. There was widespread resentment at the idea of adopting the royal ganthet due to the implication of accepting the governance of southern countries, but it was almost impossible to avoid interacting with the economies of the world. Thus, the many disparate moojgrabi and tuq norl tribes petitioned the government of Gifreeth to create a global-scale currency with no worries about the whims of far-off foreigners. In 52 TC, the first lottjär was minted. Thanks to the area's excellent mineral reserves, lottjär are stamped from silver-zinc alloy, with copper and then astral ore added to higher denominations to differentiate them. Each coin features an ashen beigmun's telltale upward-growing boughs on its back, with various landmarks from around the Gray Expanse adorning the front. The sizes of the coins also vary, with the smallest (the single lottjär) measuring less than an inch wide, and the largest officially recognized denomination (the 3320 lottjär piece) measuring three inches in diameter.
