The Age of Exploration and Time of Civility

It is currently the year 512 TC on Twinsun, which stands for the "Time of Civility". So named for its contrast with ages past, where country lines were drawn and redrawn, wars were waged, and kingdoms rose and fell. Once it was determined by many of the world governments that the political situation of Twinsun had cooled and hardened, the Council of Mist and Junivian Accord convened in an unheard-of Continental Summit to declare a new age. The previous age was named the Age of Exploration (or AE) for the many discoveries, both social and geographical, made by scientists and expeditionary forces. It was determined that the Age of Exploration had lasted two thousand years, and so any time before would be referred to Before History, or BH (though much history prior to that point was either unrecorded or lost).

Seasons and Months

Each year on Twinsun is divided into ten months, each with forty days.

Spring

  • Ounsid - The first month of the year and beginning of spring. Associated with fields being planted in the south, and the lifting of the mists in the north.
  • Varmid - The second month. Many festivals take place during Varmid, and it is a popular time for weddings.

Summer

  • Hesphan - The third month of the year and first month of summer. The fair weather makes it a popular time for trades and craftsmen. Also the start of the growing season in the north.
  • Korodan - The fourth month. In the south, temperatures reach over 100 degrees Farenheit, while in the north the sun breaks through the clouds for most of the month.
  • Juve - The fifth month. Another popular wedding and festival month. Harvests begin in the south.

Autumn

  • Spelged - The sixth month of the year and start of autumn. The mists return in the north, and in the south, the mushroom forests become safe to harvest.
  • Dethed - The seventh month. Bitter chill begins to set in once again across the land. Any unharvested plants are lost to both cold and Shiverscrapes.

Winter

  • Sanorai - The eighth month of the year and first of winter. The mists coagulate into ice-havens in the north. Mycosmoke dominates the sky in the south.
  • Feredai - The ninth month. Many countries celebrate festivals of light. Dusty Peak erupts for its annual volcanic activity.
  • Gorbai - The tenth and final month. The depth of winter often plunges the entire world into darkness for days at a time during this month. Not popular for weddings.
