Burweed City

Burweed City is a Garden City located on the peak of Hawkweed Mountain , the second largest peak of the Astrid Mountain Range that surrounds Black Rock's Dawnside. It was founded by the Scalewing Naberius Godsibb Thistlenymph, who emerged from the slain corpse of the President of the Hawkweed Valley, Queen Godsibb Naberius Sapsucker. This was able to happen after Morwen subdued her two armies, the Damned Yellows and Fireweed Legion, by taking control of the Giant Burweed and heating all of its sap and honeydew to the point of nuclear fission. Burweed City emerged from the disturbed mountain terrain, with the fallow and disrupted soil base ideal for the burweed to grow.

More burweed is grown on Hawkweed Mountain than any other in Downward Dusk, though in the Threshold Empire there is a much larger massive production of it. Burweed from Burweed City is prized for its potency in tea and wine, and there are many breweries and apothecaries in Burweed City who profit off of experimental tonics and psychoactive brews.

Like the other Garden Cities, the constituents in Burweed City adopt the generals of Sapsucker's armies as their founder deities, two Avnas Godsibb named Braciaca "Mother Malt" and Latis "Lady Liquor". The demographics are largely Scalewings, who live off of the burdock's sap, and Ameisi colonies, the latter of which tend to be the more dominant and invasive species but provide most of the infrastructure and social hierarchy. These two species have a mutualistic relationship with one another, but tend to be hostile to outsiders who overstay their welcome.

They are superstitious, like many of the Garden Cities, and make their decisions based on oracular advice. Their current oracle is an Alrauna named Helianthe who determines the yearly cycle of the city based on various variable such as weather patterns and population. When Helianthe is taken over by Mirror Life parasites and tries to destroy the town, Morwen is forced to face her with no defenses. Helianthe has the power over many bird species in the area, including the famed Holly Hawk .

Burweed City is home to one of the trading posts along the Sunset Rail route, which is more diverse in terms of species as it services many of the smaller colonies on the mountain.
