High Nobility Artifacts

Observation Log of KLO Mimi Lakes: High Nobility Artifacts

Praymonth the 32nd, Year 54 of the Century of the Nymphs, 26th Cycle
Like Taegrin, each Elf of High Nobility receives an artifact to prove their worth and lineage. I've talked about this before, but today, I was able to see the Elven King's artifact. This was after I collapsed and Tish took me to her new place in the Royal Palace. Especially cause I was in the Royal Library at the time. And Taegrin had gotten Tish after the orange glow left and AB wasn't connected anymore.
Tish asked if I was okay once I woke up in her quarters.
"I'm okay, just a little stiff and in pain," I replied.
"You are WAY too pale!" Tish had yelled at me and then yelled at some staff to bring me a meal.
"Too slow! Not enough!' she kept shouting and filling my plate again and again.
By the end of the meal I was feeling a lot better. Tish had grabbed my face and said I looked mostly better. Pretty sure i was fine by then, but Tish got me to see the artifact after I told her I was researching Teagrin and other Elf nobility artifacts, as maybe I could learn what mine is for if I did.
It is true. Just, I won't tell her what else happened otherwise she might bring down half of Turien to keep me safe. It reminds me of the first time I left the Tam River and got lost running away.
Taegrin: You never told me you ran away?
Mimi: I also didn't tell you how many times I ran away.
Taegrin: And you gave me shit for running away once!
Mimi: It all comes from your senior in running away.
Taegrin: unbelievable ...
There was a plaque under the shielded podium that held the King's artifact. i don't know if it is his actual artifact, or just a replica, or he actually has another one, but what the plaque said was interesting. in particular, 'guarded by the dragonfish of old'.
So, that night, i snuck out of the Palace. As i said, I'm a senior at running away. It would have been quicker if I could swim up the waterfall, alas, I cannot. So I claimed up the rocks beside it. It took a while, but I made it to the top.
I really expected some horror music to start playing once I got to the top. I nearly even played it on my phone, but then I heard my brooch.
"Listen to the trees". I'm not a Dryad, just cause I'm a Nymph, doesn't mean I can understand trees! (even though AB has my brooch, being within a day of the connection ... um, I think it makes sense. While none at all)
But I know my seeds, and a similar magic ran through the area, even though it was faint.
Although the trees are soulless, I could almost hear a heartbeat when putting my ear close.
It is louder in a certain direction.
I actually listened to the trees and following the loudest side of the beats, I found a pool.
I could feel the repulsion, and a sweetness. Almost hypnotic, a poison I have not yet tasted. I could feel my mouth watering. i could not feel my legs anymore as I made way to the edge of the pond. I would run, but I was repulsed from going forwards. I would leave, but I was addicted to the poisonous sweetness. A push and a pull all at once. I don't know whether it was 5 minutes or 5 hours.
But then I saw the red of the dragonfish's top fin. Three times the size of a normal dragonfish.
  "Guardian," I whispered, drool escaping.
  Fish gurgles.
I could not understand them like I could the Turtle Guardians.
But then I felt a breeze and a really really old man appeared on a rock next to the pool. He laughed - the slowest laughter I have ever heard. He must be the oldest person I've ever met too! Ah.... so slow.
And he replied to the fishes. Five fish I saw. And most of their scales were gone. Have you ever seen a naked dragonfish? No? Don't, save your eyes. ... And your heart - it's actually really sad. Especially the scars.
The old man was a typical wizard, but in slow motion. A Methuselah Dryad. I didn't know any existed after the Second Generation. I didn't know I remembered them at all to be honest. After this artifact thing, I seem to be remembering more and more things. Or maybe AB knew them? I can remember the last recipe he made really well, but I didn't bother learning it when he came...
The old man talked for the fish. Short story is that the Dragonfish are both the origin of the High Nobility artifacts and the reason Naiads aren't to swim above sea level. It is actually okay as long as its not in the Elven Kingdom, but Forbiddings over time have skewed the memories of information.
Apparently Guardians still remember, but many have been lost either due to Forbiddings causing either their existence to be obsolete or hunting of them for their Forbidden knowledge. Both happened cycles ago though, which is why artifacts are only found and not made...
