Elf Magic

Elves primarily deal with the ground in their magic. The colour of their magic when condensed is brown (as seen in the Council Elevator). They can manipulate the ground, either moving it or moving certain things within the ground. An elf has to be touching for their magic to connect/work. For example, the forest elves frequently manoeuvre nutrients in the ground to help fertilise and maintain good growth of the forest in the Forest Realm, and Dark Elves will often draw out particular metals from underground when working with the Dwarfs. Elves cannot sense another person's magic, however, they can feel anyone touching the ground - thus can determine a dryad (if moving) or the approximate weight of someone as they walk on the ground.

Stone Purification

One of the uses of elven magic is termed purification. As they work the ground, they can find and remove impurities. As such, their cities are built from purified stone. (Indeed, each household can show off their heightened magic control through both shape and colour of their house). 

Forest Elves purify stone into a white colour, this is 'just natural'. 

Dark Elves purify stone into a black colour - one of the side effects from the deviation of Forest Elves. 

As such, the Elven Kingdom in the Great Forest is made up of white buildings, merged into the treeline, while the Underground is framed by crystal black.
