Automated Quill Item in Tûran | World Anvil

Automated Quill

The Automated Quill was invented by Ivira Oranell, one of the greatest wizards of this time.

She was a wizard that always took a lot of notes about everything that happened around her. She didn't just have an interest in spells but in the Humanoid condition as a whole. What made the people around her tick? That was the question she loved to unravel.
But over time, her hand and wrist started hurting because of all the writing she did. She knew there had to be a better solution to this. So she started her research on that and eventually pieced together a quill that wrote down what you told it. It wass also smart enough to know the limits of the parchment it was writing on or to recognize that part of the parchment was already used.

The spell to transform the quill doesn't take expensive components, but it does require a high-level wizard, a lot of time, and a very specific quill.
The spell can only be done on a quill made from a Phoenix feather. These are quite rare, which immediately ups the price.
The spell takes 12 hours of constant enchanting to take effect. Which is a massive drain on the wizard as that means 12 hours without food, water, or rest.
The spell level needed to perform the enchantment is a level 8.
But the components are easy to find and are cheap. Nor are they consumed by the spell. All you need is moss, 50GP worth of diamond dust, and a piece of parchment.
All of this raises the price to around 10.000GP per quill. Some are known to ask up to 15.000GP or even 20.000GP.
This also makes the quill a very rare magic object.
