Redpond
The Redpond waterbody was created by a giant sky vessel crushing into the earth and leaving a large canyon. Over time, the canyon filled with water and is now a deep lake that looks normal by day but emits a purple glow at night.
Geography
The lake is located in the Southern part of Matonga amongst the flat grasslands of the Rosecoast.
Fauna & Flora
The Redpond lake is brimming with spectacular flora and fauna, unheard of in other parts of the lake. Most of this is due to a luminescent species of plankton that absorbs sunlight during the day and emits a purple glow during the night. Smaller fish eat the plankton and are in turn eaten by larger fish. This cycle results in almost all creatures emitting purple light. Few predator species have developed antibodies against the purple glow effect and are effectively invisible to their prey.
It is rumored that Redpond is home to the nightmarish niata. Though this is unconfirmed, the lake is a known place for niatas to breed but not for continuous living.
Natural Resources
Though the chemical properties are still not entirely understood by scholars, local fish farmers have developed a method to extract the luminescent properties from the fish in the lake and seal the substance in glass jars. These jars function as nightlights and are charged by placing them in the sun. Depending on the regularity of sunlight access and the tightness of the seal, lights are known to last between a few months up to an entire Tred.
History
Redpond, the name of the lake might be a somewhat consuing to the observant listener. The first scholar who first documented the lake onto a map was colorblind and interpreted the purple nighttime glow from the water as red. The last syllable of the name does not come from a misinterpretation of the definition of pond, but rather from the shuttle boat service across the lake called the pond. This wooden boat was originally colored purple in accordance to the glowing from the lake. It is currently colored red, after the name of the lake. Some believe that the name of the lake was fully based on the boat, but this was in fact not the chronological order of the boat.
Tourism
The lake is visited by tourists from all over the rosecoast. For those that do not wish to spend their vacation on the Southern Sea shore, there are few options that are not in the middle of nowhere in the grass fields. The red pond shuttle boat transports passengers around the lake. As a special tourist attraction, the boat fares to the middle of the lake at nighttime where the purple glow is most intense.
