Nodens

Lord of the Abyss

Summary

An ancient god who dwells in The Abyss beyond the Plateau of Leng. It is here that the spirits of humans gather when they dream of nothing, and thanks to Nodens that their minds are kept safe from whatever oneiric horrors lurk in the endless darkness. While Nodens is not an overtly benevolent deity, he does not hate mortals, and often aligns with them in his eternal battle against the forces of The Faceless God who dwells on the Moon of the Dreamlands.   Standing three meters tall with grey-white skin devoid of color, Nodens dwells in a tomb that floats, unsupported, in the endless night of the Abyss. Everything within is crafted from pure darkness by his bone-white hands. Everything, that is, except his trophies. Nodens considers himself a huntsman, and displays proudly within his throne room trophies cut from avatars of the Faceless God.   Some few mortals have earned his respect, such as Kuranes, greatest of the Dreamers, but the only company Nodens regularly keeps is that of his Night-gaunts. These creatures were likewise formed of pure darkness and given life by the Lord of the Abyss. He wiped their rubbery skulls clean of features in a mockery of the Faceless God's own name. When Nodens desires to speak with a mortal, it is the Night-gaunts who convey them to the Abyss on leathery wings of black.
