Tenebris

Tenebris is the known as the 'mill of the Empire'. It is a large, agricultural city, a center of crop production. The city is filled with mills, farmers and aqueducts that carry enormous amounts of water from Patrimos. In the middle of the city, a triangular fortress guards Tenebris and the main square, place of the largest food market on the Continent. Hundreds of bakers, millers and peasants showcase their products to the various merchants who travel across the empire, carrying bread, flour or even grain to all corners of the realm. Long caravans, protected by legionnaires set out from this city every week to supply the endless legions of Westatoras with food.

This bustling city with an abundance of food unfortunately suffers with water shortages. The aqueduct, carrying water for miles serves as the single lifeline of the city and the Grex Aedificatorum that maintains it, has immense sway over the city. A few hours from the city, the 4th legion of Drakoikos is stationed in a fortress, built underneath the aqueduct. When the water levels are low, the soldiers receive their portion first.

Important Factions

The city, despite being amongst the largest settlements in area is actually controlled by a few powerful factions.

Castle Guard

Naturally, the fortification in the middle of the city serves as an important point of authority. The Grand Duke of Tenacra rules the surrounding lands, collecting vast amounts of produce as tax. This tax is gathered within the walls of the fortress and handed over to the legions as the price of the duke's rule over the land. The fortress, surrounded by peasants that have tried to capture it many times in the past centuries is manned by elite, expensive mercenaries that serve as a deterrent to any unrest within the city.

The 4th Legion

While not within the city, the sizeable legion serves as the ever-present swordarm of the empire that stands ready to interfere in any serious situation within the city. With their finger on the city's main artery, the aqueduct, they rarely need to enter the city to force them into submission.

Grex Aedificatorum

The collection of architects, engineers and builders that coordinate the maintenance of the aqueduct and the rest of the structures in the city as well as the construction of new buildings. The Grex Aedificatorum, commonly known as the Grex holds significant power within the Urban Senate. Their power extends to crimefighting and firefighting as well, holding up the peace in most of the city in coordination with the castle guard.

The Peasants' Guild

Representing the interests of the large amount of peasants in and around the city. It is actually an alliance of guilds, each representing various, smaller groups of peasants. With their powers combined, the peasants of Tenebris holds significant power over city policies as going against their wishes can draw the ire of 90% of the population.
