Half-Elf

Half-Elves, a living bridge between the worlds of humans and Elves, possess a unique blend of both their familial lineages. Their appearance a testament to this duality, with features that echo the grace and elegance of their elven heritage intertwined with the more grounded aspects of humanity. These hybrids tend to stand slightly taller than humans, and their elven blood blesses them with a natural poise and charisma. The exact combination of elven and human features can vary widely, but half-elves often have pointed, yet shorter, ears, almond-shaped eyes, and slightly angular facial features that hint at their elven ancestry.   For those of High Elven descent, a Half-High Elf might exude an aura of noble refinement, with a refined presence that mirrors their elven parent's sophistication. Half-Wood Elves display a more rugged beauty, often sporting a tanned complexion and an earthy allure that speaks to their kinship with nature. Half-Drow, on the other hand, bear a hint of exotic allure coupled with the air of mystery that accompanies their dark elf bloodline. Half-Sea Elves are unique amongst the four as they are almost always born of human mother, due to their inability to breathe underwater like their pure-blooded Sea Elf ancestors. They often possess webbing on their hands and feet, sporting naturally, unnatural hair colors like kelp-greens, pale blues, and vibrant corals, and a hint of the sea's mesmerizing depths in their eyes.   Regardless of their elven heritage, Half-Elves inherit a measure of both worlds. They can be adept diplomats, mediators, or explorers due to their ability to navigate both human and elven societies. This blend of cultures grants them an open-minded perspective and an appreciation for diversity, making them natural bridge-builders between different races and realms.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Male and female Half-Elves display some typical sexual dimorphism in males tend to be taller and heavier, ranging from just over five feet upwards to six foot, seven inches, weighing between a hundred and fifteen and two-hundred fifty pounds, than their female counterparts, whom ranged between four foot, eight inches and six foot, three inches and weighed eighty and a hundred and ninety pounds. Male Half-Elves also, unlike their Elven forebears, are able to grow varying levels of facial hair.

Genetics and Reproduction

Half-Elves have a gestation period of around nine months   Half-Elves, of all types, are born from the unions between man and elf, between two Half-Elves, or a Half-Elf between an Elf of human. While the mixing between Half-Elves and their other genetic halves will still yield another Half-Elf, medicine men, historians, and clergy all make note that these Half-Elves may inherit more of the other races' features: more pointed or rounded ears, innate Elven magics, slightly stockier or leaner bodies, among other physical traits beholden to their ancestors.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Due to the Fey-ancestry of their Elven forebears, Half-Elves have a natural resistance to magical influences and immunity to sleep-inducing magics.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

Half-Elves usually adopt the dress and hairstyles of the culture among which they are raised. However, it is also fairly common for Half-Elves raised among humans to wear elven clothing in order to proudly display signs of their dual heritage; this however could also be reigned in should the Half-Elf live in a culture that distrusts or outright despises Elf-kind. Regardless of what they wear though, Half-Elves tend to stand out in a crowd simply from their combination of physical distinctiveness and force of personality.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

What is often misconstrued as the "cultural heritage" of a Half-Elf is closer akin to a hodge-podged blending of Elven and human propensities. Half-Elves raised by Elves and deeply immersed in Elven cultures are still viewed as human to the Elven societies, while those raised in human settlements are viewed as more Elven in nature. It leaves the overwhelming majority of Half-Elves aimless on what "belongs" to them in terms of a difinative culture. Yet, there has been no shortage of Half-Elves that have left their mark on the world for a Half-Elf to draw pride from and be reverant of.
