Flying Whales (Skeylkvál, meaning "skywhales")

Skeylkvál or the flying whale is a type of whale that you can find in Yaðin and Sipmór. The most distinct difference between the skeylkvál and other whales is that if flies through the sky. Nobody knows how it manages to fly through the sky, as it has no wings, and their body is too heavy.

Usages

The flying whale is useful for many things. It's meat is a good source of food and it's blubber (skin) is a rich source of nutritious fat and oil, which can be eaten or used as soap or in oil lamps. The bones are large and have several uses, such as the barleen (teeth), that can be used for bows, whips, parasols and collar stiffeners.   While alive, the flying whale is also useful, since some of them can be tamed and ridden. It is used to transport large amounts of cargo over unpassable terrain. This form of transportation is very expensive, but it's also usually worth the cost.   Though the flying whale can be tamed, it's not domesticated. The whale doesn't get offspring while in captivity. In fact nobody understands how it gets offspring or even seen it mate. Nobody knows how it eats either, only that it needs to fly at least 30 miles per day or it will starve. It also needs to travel from Yaðin and Sipmór spring and back to Yaðin every autumn, also for unknown reasons.
