Wizard's Tinge

Written by BigMacWalk3r

"A good wizard stands out for their magical capabilities, a great one for their feats of strength. But the best of us... they have the Wizard's Tinge."

Causes

Although the usage of magics has a very visible effect on the subject of the casting, the wizard that casts it is often left unscathed. Although, like a farmer whose tilled fields for generations and formed callouses rougher than stone, so too do the magically gifted become inflicted with the byproducts of hard work. When a magic caster has conjured enough higher-level spells, their skin becomes inflicted by an unknown condition referred to as the Wizard's Tinge. By definition, to be tinged is to be slightly coloured, and this remains true for the Wizard's Tinge: which discolours the skin of the hands upward of magic casters. It becomes more prominent with further casting beyond a particular point, spreading further with increased magic usage.

Symptoms

The symptoms are simple, a discoloration of the casters skin. The tinge starts from the fingertips and works its way up a beings arms until reaching the torso - the furthest recorded Wizards Tinge to date. The discoloration's actual colour is dependent on the casters main school of magic, whose colours are identical to what is seen when the "Detect Magic" spell is cast:
School Type Tinge Colour
Abjuration Green
Conjuration Orange
Divination White
Enchantment Grey
Evocation Red
Illusion Purple
Necromancy Black
Transmutation Blue

Treatment

Wizard's Tinge does not yet have a known treatment or cure. However, should a caster halt their magic usage, their Tinge will halt its growth.

Affected Groups

Wizard's Tinge has never shown symptoms on non-magic users. Druids, Clerics and even some lesser casters have found their skin seemingly tinge with the passing of time or the obtaining of greater powers. There have even been some who claimed to suffer from Wizards Tinge from the handling of magical objects.

Cultural Reception

Wizard's Tinge is unique in that its reception varies wildly depending on the context of those witnessing a caster inflicted by it. To those who fear magic and its destructive capabilities or are on the opposing side in battle, those tinged are often feared or ostracized - but to those who value magic, these casters are revered and praised as the backbone of any successful conflict. Disciples of magic often vary in their attitude towards the tinge as well, some dream of setting new records for the tinge's spread whilst others fear waking and finding their skin is no longer their own.
