Well, Actually Myth in Treasure Box | World Anvil

Well, Actually

There is one thing that every settlement needs, and that is the access to drinkable water. Without it, there can be no life and the only creatures capable of thriving in these lands are those of supernatural origins. This is a tale of both - about a city of ghosts that will never go back to normal, but serve as a haunting reminder of how fragile civilisation really is.   While people disagree on where the town of Osh is located, it is definitely somewhere in the mountain reagion in the west, nestled between the hills, buildings left to rot for centuries. The myth tells a tale about a man Ver Ti who was obsessed with finding the legendary toad who could grand eternal youth and other wishes - being the aspect of one of the lost gods named Osii. According to the legend he was convinced that the toad escaped into the well in this town and tried to come up with all sorts of tricks to lure it out. Unfortunately, after passing many of the toad's riddles, the poor scholar was pushed into the well by some of the local thugs, who heard rumours about his attempts and wanted to catch the toad for themselves. It is presumed Ver drowned in the well, but some say his wish of eternal youth was granted anyways... somehow... and the town was cursed by the god in retaliation.   In reality, no one really wants to drink water with the flavour of human. Or toad.
