Lannon

Lannon is a large planet located in the middle rim of the Janya Galaxy. It is known for its high winds and the batteries that are produced and powered on-world.

Geography

Lannon is a prairie planet, a classification reserved for planets with endless grass stretching for miles. Lannon in particular is completely open, no forests, oceans, or hills over the entire surface. Because of this, Lannon has particularly high winds that never stop. This affects the temperature as well as the buildings that are built for its inhabitants. The wildlife on Lannon is used to the climate and has adapted to thrive without worry.   Lannon has many cities and towns across the planet. These settlements are connected by roads, which must be traveled with specific vehicles. Spaceports on Lannon are built in densely populated areas so that the buildings can protect starships. The most distinct feature of Lannon is the hundreds or even thousands of windmills located around the world. These windmills are built of extremely strong material and maintained often in order to keep them working on charging the batteries produced for the rest of the galaxy. Lannon’s cities are powered by these batteries, which prevents blackouts from happening.

Natural Resources

Lannon’s wind prevents much work from being done in the open plains, leaving the batteries to be the planet’s main resource. Many people on Lannon work for a company that produces, ships, or sells these power sources.

History

Lannon was discovered sometime around 2000 BPC by various travelers. While it was initially considered too windy to live on, settlers eventually found ways to live there by building houses and roads out of strong materials. Power was always an issue, as the wires and lines that most planets used were often knocked down by the wind. Various inventors suggested using underground wiring but no one ever did so.   In 258 BPC, an inventor named Karloff Eizenloeur created the first design for what would become the galaxy's most used power source: rechargeable batteries powered by energy from windmills. Karloff's final design was finished in 253 BPC and was used everywhere on Lannon. When Karloff's son took over the business, he chose to distribute them galactically. Windmills were soon everywhere on Lannon and companies began to form to sell and produce batteries. Lannon quickly became the supplier for much of the galaxy's power.   Lannon is currently home to almost four billion people (the last planetary census stated 3,836,278,764 people), governed by a democratic republic, a member of the Interplanetary Peace Alliance, the producer of the most widespread energy source in the galaxy, and the home planet of Laurel Enterprises.

Climate

Lannon's high winds affect the climate to a considerable degree. While rain is infrequent, wind speeds lower the temperature far below what temperature gauges read. The people and animals that live on Lannon have become used to this, often complaining that other planets are too cold and stagnant. Temperatures on Lannon usually remain between 65 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Oh, I know him. That's Apollo Laurel, the one and only son of the CEO of Laurel Enterprises, the biggest manufacturer of Lannon batteries. Wealthy, arrogant, spoiled, and a terrible martial arts fighter. I had a few classes with him. As you can see, we didn't get along.
